Have any of you ever heard a radio or tv making noise but there wasn't either one on?
I heard old time ragtime music in a radio playing but there was no radio or tv on anywhere. So weird. It kept me from getting sleep. |

No, but I have sometimes "heard" a family member screaming or crying on a different floor of the house than I'm on, when I have a radio on and can't hear what's really happening. My family is hard of hearing and there's always been a lot of shouting around me. It's really upsetting. I always think it's that one relative has found another one dead.
I hadn't suspected that it's bipolar, I thought it might be cptsd brought on by long term caregiving for an elderly relative. It's pretty horrible. Sometimes I'm on edge waiting to hear screaming. |

I have done that since I was a kid, I never thought that there might be more to it than just me being weird. I tell you the more I read on these boards the more things are starting to make sense. by the way I never have admitted to that befor.
I have has that all my life. I thought it was just me Last edited by Wren_; Jan 21, 2015 at 05:19 PM. Reason: Post merge only |

That is interesting, never had it happen to me...though I have had it where atching tv the works would be unintelligible and would snap off at the last syllable...but that hasn't happened in a really really long time.
Now I just hear my name being called or my wife's voice, but I am guessing it's really just an effect of other sounds playing tricks on me.

I think auditory hallucinations are relatively common in bipolar. I only get them when I'm manic, but they are always either classical music, or static like you hear on a radio that's between stations.

Oh yes. Fairly often. Most recently, last night. It's weird for sure, but has happened so often that I'm kind of used to it. Generally these days I just find it annoying, and tend to put some actual music on to drown it out. Better to hear something you can actually make out what's being said or sung(!)

I told my therapist about it and she said she thinks it's awesome I heard ragtime music in the first place.
