I do have rapid cycles, from feeling very depressed one minute to lmao the next minute. When I am sad I feel like crying, I wish I could because I think it might help but no tears, just dry cries. Whats wrong with me? This can't be normal or common. My pdoc has no ideas.

Sometimes emotion can come in the most odd ways but it is still emotion no matter how it comes out.

I went through a phase like this in my late teens. I felt like a real creep, even when really sad things were happening I sat there like a stone. Now when I'm depressed, I can't stop the flow. Now I feel like a weirdo for crying at the checkout

I switch like that too from manic to depression. I feel like I'm in a mixed state when I want to cry and can't. I physically feel depressed but my mind is still caught up in mania. I also think my AD has a lot to do for me not going straight to tears.

Yes, ADs will affect your ability to cry. Are you on one? Their job is to "even out emotion" so that means you sometimes can't cry even when you want to. For me, also, I have "stuffed" emotions for so long and been "stoic" so that now it is hard for me to cry even when I want to let it roll. But, if it ever starts flowing, it just goes on and on and on......

To be honest I can say I haven't cried, even though I have felt like, other than at funerals. Otherwise, I just can't do it...except for at stupid commercials or tv shows....and generally it's because of something happy...

And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I cannot cry. I can count the times on one hand that there were any tears. Even when I need to I cannot cry.

It may be your medication. I feel this way too. Sometimes I think that people with bipolar disorder feel things more than other people and this is why we are rejected by society and put on medication because of our emotions. Emotions are deep like waves and feelings are just an outside projection. I think we have deeper emotions and when we get on the medication we suffer a loss almost like grief to those emotions even though to me it's kind of a relief... I miss my true bipolar self unmedicated. even though I know it's a dangerous place to be.
