Hi everyone. I have been on ziprasidone (Geodon) for about 3 months. When they started me on 20 mg bid, I felt like it wasn't enough. Since pdoc increased me to 40 mg bid, I have the strangest sensations when I take it. It happens when I move my eyes. It feels like my whole body gets hit with an electric shock. I take my meds with at least 350 calories like I'm supposed to. Usually I eat more than that to take them just to try to keep the sensations from happening, but it doesn't help. I want to ask for an increase on the Geodon, but I'm scared of the sensations getting more intense. Has anyone else had this kind of experience with Geodon?

And did I mention the facial twitching? It makes me outrageously irritable. I wanna scream and rip my face off! But I don't wanna go on a different medication because this one works for the mental stuff. It just gives me crappy side effects.

Thanks for reading.
Nina

Sorry to hear you are having discomfort with Geodon. I have not used Geodon but found posts or articles that might be of interest.

I'm sorry...I was on Geodon a few years ago and had to stop taking it due to side effects. I felt an electric zap feeling in my head and would go from hyperactive to asleep in two seconds flat. Not good if you're trying to work a job.... I hope you don't experience any bad effects and that it helps.

I think your doc has you on a very lose dose. When I went IP, the pdoc looked at my 40 mgs and said that that was not enough to do anything to relieve my bipolar I symptoms. He bumped me up to 100 mgs. That's all it took for me. And instead of splitting up my dosage and taking it once in the morning and once at night, he told me to take it all in the evening because it makes me incredibly drowsy. It has worked like a charm. No major manic episodes for four years.

But he also told me that different dosages do different things. I believe he said Geodon also treats Schizophrenia but at a different dosage (lower if I remember right). I could be wrong so feel free (anyone) to correct me if I am.

One side effect that it did cause for me was Akathisia. But he put me on the anti-seizure med, Cogentin, and that made it go away. I've had no further troubles.

I hope your side effects lessen and you can continue with the Geodon, if it is helping you. I wish you all the best!

M sensitive to AP. I don't need a big dose unless I'm going to sleep all the time. If a small dose is messing with me, the last thing I want to do is take a bigger one.

Thank you for finding that. I've never heard about another person getting the same weird sensations. I may see about having it increased to see if that will stop it. It just bothers me because it makes me feel like it's not safe for me to be working. (I work at a group home for disabled adults, so I need to be functioning.)

I never had that reaction to it...that's bizarre! It just made me so tired that I behaved like I was drunk. At midnight with a newborn it was scary. I could have easily dropped her and i was so out of it. I had to stop taking it because of the side effect.

Thanks, guys. I'm doing better with it now that I'm on Plexus (a supplement that helps with my low blood sugar) but I still wanna see about an increase and something to better manage my panic attacks. You can bet I will definitely be seeing my pdoc soon... I hope. I'm really bad about making and keeping appointments....

I've been on Geodon for a couple of years now and have had few problems with it. I did have some akathisia when I first started it but it went away with time. Everyone's experience is different.
