Im BP I and any AD flings me within days to a ugly mean vile Mixed episode.

Lithium is typical good , You just need blood work especially at first to get you into theraputic level. Not a huge deal and you have increase you daily fluids.

I loooooved Wellbutrin and swore it was the best drug I've ever been on—probably because it made me manic. I rarely get lows on Wellbutrin, but looking back on the past three years (hindsight really is 20/20 vision), I've had a lot of hypomanic, manic, and mixed moods. No more Wellbutrin for me, though I wish I could take it. I know I'd be risking the world's most intense mixed episodes, which were truly hell on earth, but my brain still craves that high. I hate that—knowing it's super destructive, but loving the energy rush.

Hopefully your pdoc knows to start you on a low dose because of the risk of mania, but if depression is your primary concern, you might be able to tolerate higher doses with no issues. Especially if you have a strong mood stabilizer with it... I can't speak for Lithium yet. In a couple months, I might be able to. That's the pdoc's next step if Seroquel doesn't cut it.
