Hi, I was on lamicital and lexapro and felt pretty stable but still had some breakthrough depression.

Long story short, I went off all meds.

Good things and bad things happened. So...

I would like to re-try meds. I am Bipolar 1 mixed.

Biggest side effects I want to avoid- weight gain, metabolic syndrome, feeling tired/drugged.

I also would like to be on as few meds as possible.

Any suggestions?

Right now I'm switching to geodon at a low dose and slowly raising it and it doesn't make me tired at all! It is to early to know if weight gain will be a side effect, but zyprexa whih I was on before caused me to gain 15 lbs in 2 months when I was still eating well and exercising, and I was also constantly tired.
It's important to have an open dialogue with your doctor about side effects and hopefully they will help find you one with the least side effects and most benefits!

My doctor would like me to try lithium. She has never mentioned geodon.
I am open to going back on lamcital- lexapro as well.
One of the benefits while being off is the abilility to have an orgasm!
It is such a f-cked up disease we have. Having to pick and choose which bad side effects we want to deal with.

Lamictal is good weight wise, but can make you feel tired or drugged. Messing with the dosage/timing can help. I just went off that one to try Latuda in its place, but I'd take it again. I also take Neurontin and Trileptal. I still had some depression with the Lamictal/Neurontin combo I started out on. Adding Trileptal was really helped with that. All three are pretty weight neutral.
