Whether or not you should work is a question I think only you can answer based on what you feel you can handle.
Personally, I'm a single parent so I've never had the option to not work. I haven't really thought about it. Thinking about it now, I would say working is helpful for me because it gives me something else to focus on. I tend to feel better when I'm working because I don't have time to think about how I feel. |

I wouldn't want to tell you to avoid work necessarily but I think you should choose your work very carefully to avoid stress. If you can afford to be a stay-at-home mom then maybe you could limit the participation with community that you desire to volunteer arrangements where you can commit your time and effort at exactly the level and consistency with which you are comfortable. You could of course try your own business, but that could prove stressful enough to threaten your stability.

Work is good for the soul. It forces you to get out of bed, get dressed, and get out. It's great for building self esteem, and helps to give you your own identity. Start part time and work your way up when/if you feel comfortable. I've never heard of a job without stress..
