There are lots of different opinions on drinking alcohol and caffeinated beverages. Even doctors have differing opinions. I found that the general rule of thumb is that in moderation they are fine.
In my case I have been drinking red bull and vodka for some time now. I always felt that they were a good balance. The mix for the most part never elevated my mood and at the same time I didn't sink into depression. Often I would drink red bull on its own without issue. Whenever I had mood variations I would work with the doctor to adjust my medication but I never changed my consumption of red bull drinks. I have to imagine that in some situations that the red bull would have been the cause of how I was feeling. Is there anyone out there who drinks red bull? |

No way, I dont touch the stuff! Sends me into an agitated anxious state. And even if I drink it at 10am, I wont sleep that night.
Actually exactly this time last year I was also inpatient. I had a work training day where I was the trainer and I had been so anxious about it I had about 15mg of zyprexa throughout the night before but very little sleep. On the road to the training day I was slurring my words so I thought man I need something so I am a bit more coherrant. So we downed 2 small cans of redbull and I was buzzing. I got the shakes something fierce and epic dry mouth but I managed to get through the training day very well with many compliments. Side rant.... this year round they've been so awful to me I'll let them deal with the training and I'll just sit back and hope they dont f*** it up! |

I did in college but it's so nasty! I used to do the five-hour energy shots but I got out of the habit. I don't think it did anything negative other than giving me the usual caffeine jitters.

Hi bipolar
Thank you for sharing this insight with us. Personally, I do not drink red bull, as this is not something that I have ever enjoyed much and I don't really drink alcohol, but this is for personal reasons. I would imagine, yes, you sure would find those out there who do drink red bull for sure, if there is a market for it, it would continue to be manufactured, but I guess like some things that may be unhealthy they would be manufactured too. Well I would think yes there certainly could be a correlation with the consumption of red bull and possible mood episodes, I am not entirely sure. I am just curious as to what your pdoc may think of this one? Thank you for sharing this with us. |

I had to go back on Seroquel back in July and I started drinking one small Red Bull in the morning because I couldn't function for work. Well I got hooked on them. Ironically, just this last week I stopped drinking them and I now drink a V8 Fusion Energy that has just as much caffeine, but it's the better for you caffeine, green tea, plus there isn't taurine and all that other crap that Red Bull has. My pdoc yelled at me months ago for having that little bit of caffeine in the morning, I didn't specify it was Red Bull because I knew the *** chewing would be even worse. So as far as mood, yes caffeine does make me a little on the hypo side. If I didn't have some at the beginning of the day I'd be a walking zombie, but unfortunately I have no choice but to be on Seroquel. I do feel better that I made the choice to switch over to atleast drinking green tea though.
