How many people feel they isolate, or stay away from people, due to their bipolar?

For example, I stay away from people when not stable. I am home on my computer tonight.

Hi Valentina,

I do this during my depressive phase.

It probably also stems from the fact that I don't do much besides sleep when I am despressed.

I have been doing this in my present manic state. I am coming down, but this has been mixed for me. I have never been so reactive in my life. The irritability is amazing.

I went out yesterday to a lecture. There was a question/answer period and people really bugged me. I felt like I was really snappy. I hope I didn't come off that way.

It has been very hard for me to interact with anyone.

I guess I do in a weird way. I leave work sometimes when I'm hypo because of extreme irritability and I'm scared I will lose my job. When I go thru my 2-3 days of depression I call in because I just can't put on the fake face, I just want to be left alone. I don't want others asking me over and over what's wrong. My husband knows how to read me by now so he just rides it out with me and doesn't ask questions, he's just there when I need to talk. He's the best.

I too, isolate pretty much all of the time. I just never know how I'm going to react to stuff.

I typically isolate during depressive states. This week, I isolated during a manic state. I knew i was manic. I could read the reaction of others but i could not control myself, so i just decided to ride it out by myself. Emails and text messages so no one got worried.

Thanks for the replies.
I think to friends/acquantinces, I come off as mean or snobby. Because usually I am talkative and friendly and then other times, I ignore people a bit.

I like to isolate sometimes but my son can make that difficult. I'm out and about a lot more than I would be on my own.

I do this often. It's kind of to protect people but also because I usually don't feel like being by people. I've gotten rather used to being lonely anyway due to almost everyone around me being busy.

I only see people for a few hours a week. I live alone in a cabin in a remote place. I have lots of animals, though. I'm mostly depressed and hiding.

I have been isolating myself for quiet awhile now; my friends do not understand, but I just can not make myself leave the house anymore. It is like a struggle for me to even go to the grocery store anymore. i do not like this "ME"

I understand this completely. I cancel appts and back out of social engagements and stay at home. I have a lot of friends who are borderlines and I think they take it very personally.

Or acceptances at the local bakery. They see me up and chit chatting and joking with them. And other times I am quiet and hiding behind my hat. They think I am rude or mad or something.

Week two of DBSA meeting. I let myself be a bit more involved. One like theme is the problem of isolation and how nice it is to be around one another. So far so good.

Yep when depressed I barely can answer the phone and always screen. Just leave me alone and no one gets hurt. This last episode caused me to fear the outside world. I haven't left my house In almost 2 weeks. I have to get my husband to come with me tomorrow to get groceries because I'm still feeling vulnerable even tho the depression is lifting.
