Do any of you experience mental side effects from non-psych meds?

I'm currently taking Sudafed, Augmentin, and Medrol for an ear infection. Since I've been taking them, I've had high anxiety and keep breaking down in tears. I've been much more agitated, though admittedly, the constant ringing in my ear might be causing that. I was totally fine mentally before starting them.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable addressing it any of it with my PCP.

Um, I took Sudafed and it made me hypomanic. It's a stimulant.

Edit: Assuming it was pseudoephedrine.
Thanks for this!

Yup. Had that happen...just being physically sick can affect my moods too.

Medrol is evil for moods. I have asthma and refuse steroids unless nothing else works no matter how bad the attack because it is so horrible. Medrol for me is a psych hospitalization. Sudafed is also bad.

Sutafed can cause extreme anxiety in me. I'm sensitive to meds. I'm not familiar with the others you mentioned, but anything which reads "daytime" on an OTC med is likely to increase my anxiety. Best of luck.

Ya'll are making me feel better. I'm so glad for your input. I'm pretty sure it's both the Sudafed and Medrol. I've been getting so panicky. I almost called my pdoc to ask him if they can cause those issues because other doctors treat me like I'm nuts or something.

Blame the sudafed and medrol! They absolutely can effect moods. My friend was on cold meds and had to go to the ER. They found antidepressants in her system and explained to her that cold meds often cause that.

Not sure, but I quit proton pump inhibitors because they can worsen depression.

Heck, yes. So-called "ordinary" medications can cause your feelings to shift; sudafed is a stimulant and cortisone makes sane people go crazy.

Do talk this over with your doctor; there might be other meds you can take that will help you without the fallout.
