I know this sounds counter intuitive, but I KNOW i am hypo (and have been for awhile now), but am gaining weight. What is up with that? I am craving carbs but my body is active, my sleep pattern is disrupted, and I am generally just happy and unbelievably productive.

Am I the only one who gains weight while hypo???

I do. I love eating. I can't stop eating, it's like speed eating! Everything tastes so good and I can't get enuff. I got to force myself to not eat that, or that, or that.

Lack of sleep kills your metabolism. I have gained weight when hypo, because it makes me hungrier than usual. I lose weight when manic, because I get into diet binges and think I don't have to eat anything, but hypo not so much. I've gained before.

I don't monitor my weight (feeds insecurity and depression for me) but when I'm depressed I stop eating and lose weight.myherefore when hypo I probably gain weight because I'm eating normally and also feel justified treating myself with a candy bar or milkshake or something.

I noticed that I eat a lot when I'm "up." I caught myself bindging IDK a week and a half or so ago. . . it's all a blur. I decided that in order to regain control I was going to have to take the all or nothing approach. It's helping . . .or am I bindging on celery? Whatever, I'm enjoying the ride.

Good question with various responses.

I tend to lose weight because I am so scatter brained when hypo I simply forget I was meant to eat

I eat a lot even if I'm not hypo. I just read that binge eating and bipolar disorder is connected in some ways.

I don't have the appetite, it is just that when I do eat, it tastes a million times better. I get a very sensory mania. It is the only type of hallucinations I get and they are not hallucinations as much as all my senses become acute. Sounds are amplified, taste and smell are amplified, physical sensations are amplified.

So many of you described what I am feeling so well...I just LOVE FOOD. I don't have an off switch and I cannot get full. It's weird because, while hypo, I usually lose weight so I am kind of perplexed this time...but you all cleared it up for me. I know FOR SURE i am not pregnant, but the way I crave food is almost like that. It's such a wild ride with bp sometimes. At least I haven't gone off the deep end yet. I am aware, motivated, supppppper productive. I just hope it stays this way; its always hard to tell when things will ramp up, you know? For now, i will just enjoy food and try to put some sort of limit on how much i eat.
