So, after seeing my PD today, he switched me from valium to xanax (http://forums.psychcentral.com/bipol...on-valium.html) and prescribed dekapote 500mg in addition to my current cocktail of Saphris and Lactamil. Isn't that too much medication? I didn't know you could be prescribed more than two mood stabilizers.

Could you please share your experiences with Dekapote? Is the weight gain as bad as the reviews say?

I am not an expert but I thought lamictal and depakote were not to be taken at the same time unless one is increasing as the other decreases....that is what I did when I went from depakote to lamictal,, but you are on a low dose of lamictal..

I just had depakote added to lamictal & latuda & some other stuff. I feel like a walking pharmacy. I guess it's ok so far, it brought down some mania. But now I'm depressed. Hope it works well for you. Hugs

I was on it a few years ago. I gained 40 lbs really quickly. I will not go on it again.

I've just had it added to Lamictal as well. My safe is no longer big enough big enough to hold all my medications - I have small kids so I lock the meds away.

I'm currently on Depakote 750mg at bedtime, Prozac 30mg in AM, Buspar 10mg twice daily. I also take propranolol 10mg prn for anxiety & Ambien 5mg about twice weekly prn. I've been on these doses for several months & doing pretty well. The Depakote did make me ravenous the first couple of weeks & I put on some weight but it passed-I've upped my exercise routine to get the weight off. I also feel like a walking pharmacy sometimes too My mood has been bouncing around but I want to manage it on as low amount of meds possible-see my pdoc in 3 weeks so just gotta keep on putting one foot in front of the other.
