Well the tegretol (carbamazepine) landed me at the hospital with an allergic reaction.... alon with a non related cold like infection which was intensified tho by the reaction.... I was advised to immediately stop taking the tegretol , giving anitbiotics for infection, benedryl for allergy symptoms, and blood test to confirm the reaction...... so tuesday its back to doc and most likely a new treatment plan...... really am not upset though b/c as I have stated many times I wasnt happy about being on the tegretol...

well, glad they caught it before it got any worse, at least.

I'm playing med roulette right now too, and it stinks.

Hugs, if OK --

I was taking trileptal the longer acting form of tegretol, and it caused me many problems, anemia, low wbc, and hypo natrmia, low sodium, she took me off of it. I always wondered why I could never donate blood during that 3 years.
so maybe you are having low wbc white blood count and this is why you got sick...I don't know.
I wish you wellness.

I remember once there was one med that made me feel kind of weird for an hour or so after I took it, though I was feeling pretty good most of the time... I told my pdoc that I wanted to stop taking the med. He answered, "So what you're telling me is now that you're feeling good, you want to change everything?" Smart-alecky pdoc! But I did take his point...

Finding the right mix of meds for you is usuallly really time-consuming and frustrating... you just kind of have to take one day, one week at a time, and follow the doctor's direction scrupulously... and be able to call when things don't go right.

You guys hang in there.... it will get better!
