I think people just assume that when we are upset, irritable, sad or joyus thatit is because of the bipolar, and then they get to ignore the real problem. I just had a dentist refuse to stop and let me talk to him. I guess he thought I didn't get to have a sya in my treatment. When I got justifiably mad, he wet to talk to the guy who gave me a ride there, instead of talking to me! I can't imagine he would treat any of his "normal" patients that way. I felt assaulted! Anyone had experiences like that when your real emotions were belittled because of your bipolar?

favorite quote from the movie, "ET"
when Elliot tells his friends in the park what they have to do to save ET from the scientists, Greg asks, "Why doesn't he (ET) just beam up?" to which Elliot replies, "This is REALITY, Greg!"

I have had coworkers in the past say stupid things when i got frustrated at work. "Calm down man, what are you, bipolar or something?" I hate that kind of judgement, even tho I am bipolar. But that was me frustrated at work stupidity, not a bipolar episode.

I have a relative who will always blame it on the bipolar if I disagree with her or say something she doesn't like. Then she'll say I'M blaming bipolar for my "behavior". I can't win with her. Needless to say I don't spend a lot of time with her. She makes me crazy!

Yes, all the time.

If I feel differently about a situation - it's because I have bipolar.
If I react differently to others - it's because I have bipolar.
If I'm offended - it's because I have bipolar.

No-one considers to think that actually, that might be my true feeling on the subject. No, it's alllllll bipolar. Don't listen to anything I say because I'm crazy, so my views are invalid.

The little things I do are always dismissed as bipolar. The little mood changes. But the big mood episodes seem to be judged as something I should control better. I always have to say the big manias and the low depressions are just managed, not cured by meds.

So, yep, I feel misunderstood.
