I saw this topic in another forum and thought it would be fun if we could share some of our quirkiness with each other.
Below are some of mine quirky traits: - I simply cannot sleep if the closet door is even slightly open. I am always under the impression Chucky will come out to get me during my sleep - I talk like A LOT with my cat, and sing to her as well. I like making up songs to her. It gets even funnier and more ridiculous as hypomania starts building up - I have the weird habit of smelling food before I put in my mouth. Some people think it's rude but I cannot help it, I need to "sniff" it just to make sure it's safe. So, anybody else would like to share some lovely quirky facts of their own? ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I talk and sing to my dog, too. Lots of times i do it in the dogrun on our property and then notice someone out on the balcony overlooking it. Ha!
I'm 48 and a woman and i like to listen to and memorize Eminem songs. I'm pretty sure i am NOT his target demographic! |

- I love the beach but loathe sand between my toes
- I compulsively avoid cracks when walking on pavement - Too much stimuli (sounds, lights, smells, weird textures) make me over anxious and panicked. -I hear and am distracted by faint sounds (dripping water, chair scraping floor, clearing of throat, hum of electronics, rustling of leaves, etc) that most cannot hear - I obsessively sniff and re-sniff non perishables (even if far away from expiration date) my fridge before consuming (irrational fear of consuming spoiled food) -I am very squeamish of anything near or on my eyes |

-I once played in a swimming pool full of Jello with a bunch of special needs kids and 4 college aged camp counselors.
-In the same job while manic I once allowed my campers to paint my nose with orange finger nail polish. I then scrubbed all the skin off my nose and had a huge scab for weeks. I was a wee bit manic at the time ![]() -I knit hats that go to NICU babies. I need to get motivated and get a box of those sent to the charity. -I went from the #1 Stone Cold Sober College in May to the #1 Party School in September. Culture shock. -My cat's litter pan is in my bedroom because I live in a 600 sq ft house and she can't make to the basement as planned. I am an expert on what kitty litters work best (Tidy Cats Black lid). -In high school I attended a summer program about the murder of JFK where we got to put on a mock trial of Lee Harvey Oswald. -Before bipolar I had a nearly photographic memory. I could remember complex articles with just a note on a notecard. -I have a birthmark covering most of my right hand and wrist. If laid out flat it would be the shape of the US.

I lock the door behind me every time I come back inside. Even when my son or boyfriend are a few steps behind me. My son adapted and takes his keys everywhere. My boyfriend brought it to my attention a few months back, and I was flummoxed. I don't do it to be rude, it's just that if it's a lock and it's behind me, I am turning it.

I wear shorts until it's just about freezing outside.
I have conversations with my cat, and because of her breed she always replies. Oh, and in response to the birthmark thing, I have one that's a perfect triangle on my arm. Oh, and I always smell my drinks (even if it's water) to make sure that they smell okay. I am deathly afraid of poisoning myself.

I do the food-sniffing thing too. When I was a kid, my grandpa said it made me look like an animal. Haha, ok, whatever. But it tells me what I need to know. Including flavor.
There are so many, I'd not know where to start, so will just go with what is probably most peculiar. I sometimes write in a mixed transliteration. It started with being the way I wrote gift ideas down, so as to keep them secret and not ruin the element of surprise. But I also use it to write things I don't want read by accident or snooping. Like no-holds-barred stuff. But what is it? It's words of one language written in the (different) alphabet of another. But some sounds are not represented, so those are written in the letters they'd normally be. (Oh, that's SO much clearer now! ![]() |

I share some of your quirkiness hehe - I also panick in environments with too much stimuli. That's why I dread going to concerts or summer music festivals. I tend to get very claustrophobic and all skittish. During my early 20's my friends never understood why I would avoid those events like the plague. - Faint sounds have the power to totally distract me. If I'm in bed almost falling asleep I can hear the sound from far and that's enough to wake me up. While on grad school I had a hard time trying to concentrate in order to write my essays, my concentration was constantly being disturbed by faint sounds coming from the next door apartment or whatever. - I sniff everything that's in the fridge, I'm very scared of eating something that's even a bit spoiled and get a foul taste in my mouth. - I also sniff foods and obsess about consuming something spoiled...so much so it often determines what I order at restaurants (I have a long list of "risky" foods that shifts depending on where I am)
- I used to be really paranoid about getting an STD - even when I wasn't having sex. I was so worried about it all the time I couldn't even go for more than an hour at a time without "checking" myself. Sometimes this meant a self-examination while driving 90 miles an hour down the freeway. - I am absolutely terrified of flying and no longer do it. I still love traveling though so I often go on very long train / bus / car trips. I once bought a 1969 camper bus when I didn't even know how to drive a stick (I learned, much to my mother's horror) - ended up living/driving in it for a month. Most recently I took a train for 4 days just to do a 1 hour interview on the other side of the country. Last xmas I took a bus for 7 days (and then 7 days back) to meet my family who were on vacation in costa rica. |

I have misophonia so hearing people chew their food loudly or smacking makes me so angry I want to punch them (and sometimes I have punched them).

I do not like to touch doorknobs. I imagine them crawling with germs...blech!
I talk to horses and cows when I see them. Then I answer back for them

I am compulsively a half an hour early wherever I go because driving and riding the bus gives me so much anxiety I need that long to wind down before I go into wherever I'm going.

I'm right there with you Risuneko. The sound of people eating is a big problem for me. Just drives me crazy. I have excused myself from gatherings just to take a breather from someone who eats loudly.

Another one for me is alarm clocks. I can't set an alarm for a round time...7:00am, 6:30am. I have to set them for 7:29, 7:11, etc. don't know why.

I used to bring earplugs to my friends house to block out the eating noises. I think it offended them but it was better than me hitting them.
