Lately I feel like I am deteriorating in a number of ways. Physically I feel like I've aged a decade - my looks and also capability. My mind feels like it is just not working correctly. I can handle very little stimulation yet I am craving it at the same time. I can't remember ****! I don't feel as intelligent as I used to.
Has anyone else experienced feeling this way? Do you think this is the result of depression or meds? There is a part of me that feels like my meds are ruining me. |

Before I was medicated and diagnosed I had the worst memory. I'd find something to search in the Internet and then completely blank out what I was gonna do. I have forgotten simple tasks how to or where my favorite restaurant is (directions). I gradually improved when I had the right course of bipolar meds tweaked.

I know my memory loss and diminished cognitive functioning is due to ECT. I know it will improve but it's a slow process, usually over the course of a year. And I have to come to terms with the fact that I may never be the same. But ECT saved my life, so really, what can I do?
I know when I was on geodon once and it destroyed my memory. But it came back as soon as I went off of them.

LOl @ middle aged .. Sorry I'm middle age
![]() Memory and cognitive issues are a main complaint for people with any mental illness, it is just part of the beast..then medications being layered on .... Sure its going to cause problems and lots of them. How to help yourself? Work on finding what helps your memory.. Mine? If I write something down I am less likely to forget stuff, just handwriting it once is a huge help for me, So I love lists. I am a huge reader,,its common for me to read 2-3 or more books a week. I also play memory driven games.. In past I was on many medications that were causing me problems, I never settled and I would not agree to take a medication if it made me stupid. Ps Lithium is huge for causing brain fog.

You need to develop tips and tricks to help yourself out. MI works different in all of us and effects us cognitively differently.

I have seen my memory getting worse and worse as well. I forget all sorts of things to nothing really in particular just random things. Peoples names, faces, and interactions is consistent for me. I work at a hospital so I see a lot of people and I'm fairly well known because I am in the IT department. I will have conversations with somebody and then after they leave turn to the person I'm with and tell them how I have no idea who that was. It can be frustrating too because I will have committed to do something and completely forget about it.
In order to combat this I keep track of all things I said I am going to do in my calendar, I also keep sticky notes around so I can make notes and stuff. |

![]() My mind feels like it's gone a bit backwards but that's because I'm scatterbrained, forgetful and rather absent minded with mania. I'm working on it = I'll get there, and I have no doubt that you will too. |
