Well if I didn't mention it, I didn't connect with my now second therapist at the clinic and the one I wanted to see couldn't accept new patients. I have just decided to stay with my current and pay out of pocket. Here is the good part. The "couch" place I planned to go to didn't work out. It turns out KY state law (and maybe federal) states that Medicaid patients cannot private pay because the private payer cannot accept money from a Medicaid patient, not even from a family member. The only way a private payer can accept money from a Medicaid patient is if it comes from a third party. This means that any and all psychiatrists in my region are only options if they accept Medicaid. Well, I called around ALL day and no one, except the clinic I mentioned and my current majorly over prescribing doctor, are accepting patients. I can't get into the new doctor (from the aforementioned clinic) until September. So until then, my ONLY choice is my current doctor and after then I will have 2 choices period. It sucks and is entirely overwhelming. I feel like I have plummeted into depression and this is only making things worse. I feel detached and apathetic about my life.
Possible trigger:
That can't be good.

If you're close to the border check clinics across state lines that may accept Ky medical

I don't understand why so many places aren't accepting new patients. It's so hard to get help. It shouldn't be so hard.

You can pay of out pocket. Unless you tell someone you have Medicaid how would they ever know?

Are you able to spend-down your Medicaid? I don't know how straight medicaid works and states are different. In Ohio I have disability Medicaid which means that any month that I either write Medicaid a check for an amount based on my income (it is what lowers me to eligiblity) or spend that much on medical bills they pay for anything over that amount. So for my ankle surgery last year I should only have to pay about maybe 30% of what I'm guessing the adjusted cost will be when we finally get to that point. I could include anything in that amount, at least as far as I understand it so my therapy, dentist and meds were covered that month unless I'm really wrong. And my dentist and therapist aren't medicaid providers and I have no idea about my pharmacy. They are not so good with answering questions in this county; I wish I'd asked more in my old county. If I go IP that too will be covered.

I have no idea if that could help you in any way. I know things get really tricky with restrictions on people getting any help from govt. programs. I get a lot of meds through patient assistance and have had to request exemptions because I have Med D even though Med D would require me to pay up to half my monthly check for just one med. I looked at using the Latuda coupon to just get started but I wasn't eligible for it due to the govt. insurance and out of pocket for one week was about $200 I think. So much for that.

It is so confusing how it all works. I dealt wtih Medicaid professionally for years and knew there was a lot of nonsense (ie denying me wheelchairs for people who couldn't sit up without special chairs so that I learned to build fancy wheelchairs from scraps) but now that I'm in the system I'm blown away. I'm not sure if I got kicked out and have to restart or not because they changed my address wrong even though I provided it in writing and via phone message, twcie. They didn't return my call. I'll have to deal with that tomorrow in fact.

I wish it were easier for you. Does the pdoc you liked so much, the woman, take medicaid? If she did maybe calling and saying you'd been a patient, having trouble finding someone, etc might work or at least be worth yet another phone call.

I tried that. I even looked into making the monthly drive to my previous pdocs new office ( 1 - 1 1/2 hours) but they don't take KY medicaid. I even called the closest hospital across the border and struck out.

Yes, you can just claim that you don't have medicaid and I suppose there is no way they can deny you coverage. BUT, the law also states that if you have a prescription filled by a non medicaid provider, and you have medicaid, medicaid will not fill your prescription. In other words, I will be paying full price for all of my meds also. Abilify is upwards of $600 a month. I don't think there is a way around it.

The reason I stopped seeing her is because she relocated over an hour away. Well, after everything the other day, I called, deciding I was just going to make the drive, and was elated to learn that she accepts medicaid. But, then walked away in tears learning they take IN but not KY medicaid and, since I have insurance, I don't qualify for their walk in pricing. We are praying my husband gets this new job he applied for so we will have insurance.

I haven't done this in many years and I am not sure it's still done, but what about filling your rx out of the country. I used to get all my meds from canada bc I couldn't afford then here. You still need a script, but maybe if you do it that way medicare doesn't know?

I don't know if this would ever work, but maybe
