I'm feeling absolutely NO anxiety, nor psychotic symptoms now that I'm on Tegretol. Anxiety has been a real pain in the butt for a very long time. Couldn't think straight. Sweaty armpits. Acne. The works.
However, Tegretol for me is both good and bad. Bad because my motivation is lacking a bit. And pdoc wants to increase my Tegretol dosage next time I see him by 200 mg to a total of 600 mg. I do not. I've always felt less is more. I've been sort of numb on 400 mg. He really is pushing to increase the dose especially because of the recent psychotic symptoms I'm experiencing. I tell him I'm fine now but he doesn't believe it. I don't even dare smile or make a joke around him else he'll label me manic. (CAN YOU SEE HOW THIS BEHAVIOR I'M LEARNING IS NOT WORKPLACE APPROPRIATE?!) Any tips on how to handle this situation? I don't know what he could do i.e. send me to the mental asylum??

If I were in your shoes I would tell him that he either needs to respect me or I am going to find a new pdoc.
Like I would start off explaining that I don't want to increase the dosage because I've been feeling good where I'm at. If he started arguing with me that I don't know what I actually feel, then it would be, "I need a psychiatrist who listens to me and respects me. If I can't find that here, then I am going to find a new psychiatrist." If his next move was in any way whatsoever disrespectful or invalidating, I would get up and walk out. Everything from me would be calm, polite and assertive. That is how Nons stand up for themselves and is in no way a sign of any disorder or illness symptoms. |

I went through about ten Pdocs until i found one that i felt listened and respected me and actually understood this disorder. it isn't easy for sure. but since this is a life long thing and you have the resources in your area see if you find one that is a better fit. just an idea.
