Can you develop a rash from lamictal after being on it for three years?
I'm sure it's something else, but it just made me think of that side effect. It's under my left shoulder blade. It doesn't itch. It isn't red or inflamed or anything. I didn't even know it was there until my husband noticed it. I've been light headed and dizzy lately, but attributed it to going off of seroquel. Just wondering if you can still get it after being on it for three years.

I don't know. I guess you could but I think it is really rare after 8 weeks on it or something. I would just go to the dermatologist asap. Do you have one?
I have somehow lucked into an amazing Derm who gave me his medical cell phone and I text him pics or ask him questions. My skin is very sensitive and I get little rashes all the time. I can tell you what he always says to me when I have something. He always say to put the clear ointment cortisone on it and see how it is in 24 hours. If it is better it has it not the lami rash. If it is worse to come on in. I have done this countless times and it is always better or the same. He also says that if it is the lami rash you won't be wondering for very long because it progresses very fast. Which is strangely comforting to me. Anyway that is what my guy says. |

I've had the lamictal rash badly and I agree with Capriousness. It is fast. When I had it I went to work with it on about oh 15% of my face. My hair hid it. By the time I left 4 hours later it was at 50% and by night 100% of my face and some of my neck. It also is very itchy and it burns like a severe sunburn, especially when wet (and I've hard others describe this so I think it's pretty consistent). I think you'd notice it. For me it started with a small patch that was really itchy on my cheek and then got much, much worse after I stupidly took another dose of it that night, not considering the rash could be lamictal.
You can get it after the risk period (I was 2 weeks past the high risk time when I got it) but it is very uncommon, esp. after months have passed. If you stopped lamictal and re-started it the rash risk goes back up. I believe it is typically on the face as well although I could be totally wrong about that. I do know it is distinct in appearance (not to us but to drs) as I went in and said "I'm supposed to be here for bronchitis but I think..." and the dr jumped in and said "that the Lamictal rash is a bigger issue? Um, yeah..." and then he went and called my pdoc and they devised a plan. Still, if in doubt get it checked. You don't want lamictal rash to do any growing.

Thanks guys. I didn't think it could be it, since I'm way past the danger zone.

The rash can appear anytime, of course its more likely when you first start or anytime there is an increase.. But it can happen.
