We live in a society where no one wants to takes responsibility for their actions. The legal system perpetuates this thinking, where 'being found not guilty' is the objective, rather than finding the truth of a matter and then having it handled in a just way. It's a very imperfect system, and to be honest, pleading insanity due to bipolar, it brings all who suffer from this MI into disrepute. Whilst the emotions are stronger, and at times lead to less than rational behavior, we are still all accountable for our actions, even if it is as simple as recognizing the need for help and medications.

I don't blame the lawyer that's his job, I just hate to be painted with such a broad brush, ... it seems every shooting, every bad deed of any kind is the fault of being bipolar ... it's the reason people don't want to disclose, ... I know i don't ... I swear if this continues we will be put on a watch list, villainized by people, the media or even the government, ... is that paranoid enough for you, ...

Everytime someone goes and does something terrible, shoot Gabby Giffords.. bam its Bipolar or Schiz! James Holmes shoot up a theatre Bam again.. Dude walks into a church Bam again. Kidnap a person Bam again. Sorry they are just horrible humans.
Again Again Again.... to me the saddest thing is the fact that there are homeless hungry people that do in fact have a MI and they can't get any help, yet they don't commit crimes. Yet these horrible humans killing people will get Prison with a bed, free food and medical care and peoples taxes take care of them. ack ! ![]()

When I tell people I have bipolar (like my GP or my ob, or nurses who don't work in psych wards) their eyes always get really wide, like I'm suddenly going to grow talons and claw their eyes out. Lol.
Stigma. That's why I don't tell anyone, unless I have to.
