Can restlessness be a symptom of certain drugs? I'm normally a person who enjoys quiet time for daydreaming and thinking, but lately I feel really restless and constantly have to have something to keep my hands and mind busy. I feel like I have ADD, and can't really even concentrate on most things for too long. For a while I thought it might be due to some problems I was having in my personal life or a symptom of bipolar, but I think the restlessness really began around the same time as I started certain medications and just wonder if anyone else has this experience. It's hard to know what is the cause.
I don't really like this restless feeling at all, but I suppose if it is caused by the drugs, it would be better to put up with it than to just quit the drugs. |

What medication is it? How long have you been taking it?
I've had the "restless" feeling, like I have to do something, but don't know what. Wellbutrin can cause this for me. When I took Paxil and Proxac without a stabilizer, I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. It caused not just restlessness, but actually made me manic. I Constantly had to do things, but my attention span and follow through was terrible, so I'd start tons of things but not finish them. So the short answer to your question is YES, medications can cause restlessness. Definitely discuss this symptoms with your doctor. |

I've noticed the problem within the same general time as I've started taking my last two medications, Haloperidol and Clonazepam, but not as a direct result that was noticeable right away. Also, when I looked up information for these medications, it seemed like they are supposed to have the opposite effect. So I'm not sure if it's the medications or something related to my personal life situation or something related to bipolar.

I've only been given Haloperidol in the ER, during acute mania, so I don't really have any experience with it. I've never taken Clonazepam either. Hopefully someone with experience of these drugs can chime in. But yes, from what I understand of these drugs, they should be having the opposite affect on you. But AD's cause suicidal ideation in some cases, so drugs don't always work like they are suppose to. Talk to your doctor. Keep us updated on how you're doing and what they say/think.
Best of luck. |
