My mom and I are both bipolar. She's in the middle of an episode, I saw it coming as I know her pattern. She's paranoid believing that others are trying to harm her and my family. Anger is also starting to set in. How do I handle her? I'm making sure she takes her medicine especially sleeping pill because I know lack of sleep will just make it worse.

How do you best handle someone that is in the middle of an episode? I think anyone else would handle it better but my anxiety starts rising when she's like this.

From my experience you don't want to disagree with her you need to comfort her and make her feel safe. I usually have to help one of my relatives when they have an episode like this too.

Validate, validate, validate. It will help lower defenses, which can also help a person reach their own conclusions about what they must do for his/herself.
