I have recently been diagnosed with bipolar again. Does anyone know if your mood can change so fast from good to depressed? I can't stand this! I was ok when I got up earlier this morning ( and I was fine yesterday) and now I'm feeling so depressed.

I've read about rapid cycling, but I find it confusing. One of the ways I distinguish BPD and BP symptoms, is that BPD symptoms get triggered by something in the immediate situation, are intense and yet fleeting, while BP symptoms will last for days, weeks or months. It's like the difference between have a sudden angry response to something specific, and feeling generally agitated by everything over the course of days, weeks, etc. However, when I read about rapid cycling, it sounds so similar to what I've believed to be BPD symptoms. It's confusing to me.

While it's possible to cycle that quickly, it's actually pretty rare. I would look into Borderline (BPD) and see if any of the symptoms for that seem familiar, it's much more common

CopperStar, BPD can be characterized by intense love followed by intense hate with seemly no reason. Anger for no reason, the stopping and starting of work, relationships, doctors, therapists. If you go to the BPD page, there's a good summation. Rapid cycling is more mania/depression related, rather than a volitile personality.

Hmm. I dunno then. I only get that way with my mother, nobody else. Oh well. The meds for BP are typically the same as the meds for BPD, so I figure I'll get two birds with one stone, regardless.

It is not unlikely that you are rapid cycling due to some of your meds and how they interact as cocktails. It would be best to check with your pdoc and maybe tweak the meds according to his advice.

I have often felt like a switch goes off and my mood suddenly shifts for no reason and I stay that way. But it doesn't feel like a rapid cycling issue..

If you're an ultra rapid cycler then yes it's not impossible.

Otherwise it could be things in your environment causing you to fluctuate rapidly.
