Hey guys! So this past week or so, my depressive side has been flaring up again, so I'm assuming my medication cocktail isn't working as well as it should be. Does anyone have any experience with Abilify? My doctor seems pretty reluctant to utilize antipsychotics since I had a bad experience with Zyprexa, but from what I've read, Abilify seems like a godsend. It won't make me slow and doped up, it won't pack on pounds, it doesn't increase prolactin, and I've seen from research that it's pretty good for both bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder (which are the two main suspects of what I have.) Of course, research is great and all, but I'm wondering if you guys have good experiences with this medication? The only thing that worries me is that I have pretty severe anxiety, and I don't want it to make it worse. But if it does, I can just use the Klonopin for anxiety and stay pretty balanced. Wellbutrin usually makes people with anxiety even worse, but 150 is enough to give me a bit of a kick without making me jittery. 300 mg is a totally different story. Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have never taken Abilify but my daughter was put on it and it seemed to work good for her when she would take it regularly. Which they just umbrella'd her with an MI because they didn't want to give her an actual dx as a teenager. Sorry can't be much help.

Saw my pdoc yesterday and he added Abilify to my meds.
He says it helps with anxiety and is used as a mood stabilizer
as well. I am so sick of trying all these meds but I guess we have
no choice it seems its all trial and error. Good luck I hope it works
out for you.

Abilify has been a godsent. It's the only reason why I'm still here. I was on 20mg before I was switched to the shot version. My son was on it too and did well. I had a little weight gain, nothing like Zyprexa.

I also have found abilify to be my godsend. But i will mention no weight gain is a lie. Theres totaly a bit of weight gain. I put on 20 very needed pounds. But abilify keeps my manic from getting out of controll and doesnt let me fall to far into a depression. Im almost functional on it. Almost... either way i dont feel dopey all day but i will also mention it lowered my blood pressure a bit so i have to be carefull and slow when standing after laying down so i dont get dizzy or black out. Best of luck!

I just had to quit my miracle drug, risperdal for Abilify. So far it's not bad but everyone is diff. It doesn't make me tired so I take it in the morning. I have found that I do have to take a benzo with it because it makes me a tiny bit jumpy. Nothing severe. Just hope it goes away with time. I'm also bp2 and BPD.

I've never taken it but from posts from the past it sounds like an almost godlike drug.

Im one who has tried abilify with horrible side effects on lowest dose possible. Quick weight gain. Insomnia. Hyper alert. I am extremely sensitive to meds. Meds work different for everyone. Never know it could be that one for you. Just dont believe all the hype you read online. In the last year have tried saphis which caused mania lowest dose. Abilify. Topamax caused brain zaps worsened headache weight loss (good thing) and sui thoughts lowest dose. Just started Latuda lowest dose. Helps sleep except tonight, makes me hungry not good. Have to give it at least a month. We will see. Good luck. Its all trial and error!

I never had anxiety until my most recent bout w/depression. Pdoc prescribed Abilify as a 'booster' for my lamotrigine and wellbutrin. I'd never correlated the onset of the anxiety w/the Abilify until my new pdoc said 'Abilify is giving you anxiety and worsening your depression.' I'd never heard of this, but after tapering off Abilify, my depression has lessened and the anxiety is gone.

I will add another hangnail here and say Ability did not like me one bit and I returned the feelings .

My anxiety went crazy. Depression worsened. I had insomnia. I gained 13 pounds. I had that akathisia stuff and it sucked bad.

I have since learned that I cannot tolerate antipsychotics. **** in my brain doesn't work with them.

I did the gene blood test thing I talk about here
