So, I've been on Cymbalta, Lamictal, and small dose of Xanax for 7 years. I finally was diagnosed as BP back in June after a current manic episode. We now know what is happening with my destructive behavior a few times a year. The rest of the time I was going between hypo mania (love) and depression. My pdoc said Cymbalta can cause those manic episodes and I needed to wean off of it. I'm officially off of it after three months (129mg to 0). I was put on Lithium with my Lamictal and I felt better mentally but couldn't handle the physical side effects. So, that has been stopped and I started Depakote a few weeks back and I'm slowly upping it. I feel a bit off, almost mentally and physically shaky. Also, my mood has drastically changed. I don't know if it's for the better or not. I'm overly emotional, I can get angry at the drop of a hat or I can just start crying. It's like everything I feel is intense. Is something wrong or is this just me finally feeling things and not being drugged and covering those emotions up? Will this get better as it goes along? Is this what I should be feeling?

Depakote did bad things to me... Lithium works better for me.. Meds do different things for each person. Best person to talk to is your pdoc or prescribing doc. Ive been on lithium for the better part of 10 years. Depakote took me 6 months then HAD to stop it... I'm rambling sorry..
Thanks for this!

I have been on Depakote several times. I recently went back on it and am on 750 mg a day. My husband think I am less depressed but more irritable. I guess every person is different but you have had a lot of med changes in a short period of time so anything is possible. I would talk to your pdoc and in the meantime, hang in there. Hopefully things will level out or changes to your meds will occur that put you in a better place.
Thanks for this!

Talk to your pdoc. I'm still figuring out if my meds are working, I think I'm tolerating the Geodon, but pretty sure the dosage needs to be upped. Hard to tell due to the upheaval in my life right now too.

Perfect example just happened.....I saw this emotional dog video on FB that is the same type of dog that I have. It was beautiful! I asked my husband if he wanted to see it and he rolled his eyes and said, let me guess it's about a dog like one of ours or about a cute baby. I got really embarrassed and held back tears and the same time laughing because I was embarrassed. I would not normally do that! I would have stuck my tongue out at him and said something cheeky! Ugh!

I am coming off lithium and depakote, switching to Trileptal because I felt numb with the occasional up and down. Hope this one works ...
