I feel happier, a little bit smaller, more energy, less anxiety, and my stretch marks that went deep went real light...weird...

I didn't notice anything other than weight loss after stopping Lithium. And incidentally, I didn't notice anything other than weight gain while on Lithium. It was a total waste of time for me.

I dealt with nausea at first but it faded and I had no side effects coming off it. I was happy the extreme thirst went away!

I actually had a lot of tremors on lithium and that constant blood test to check levels was really annoying. I am so glad to be off of it!

I don't remember feeling any change coming off the lithium other then being happy to be off of it.

I was physically very sick when I stopped Lithium, I also had lots of cognitive issues.. A couple weeks of pure hell to be honest..

Funny I dropped AP's cold turkey left and right and never blinked, But lithium? Was horrid.

If your mood is going higher and higher you can go hypo and then onto mania .. Watch so you don't crash and burn.

Stay safe

I stopped Lithium a week ago and have had no side effects at all. One thing I have noticed though is that I am more irritable and my mood is more labile. Hopefully that will settle down with time. My T has noticed a change in me since reducing, then stopping, Lithium. He is a little concerned I might be going into an episode. I think I am fine but will watch for warning signs. Can't wait for the weight gain to fall off though, lol!

I was never on lithium because I was already diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when I started getting help. However, they first prescribed Depakote as my mood stabilizer and I gained about 95 pounds in the 10 months that I was taking it. I kept asking my pdoc, at the time, to take me off of it because I was so concerned about my rapid weight gain. She told me I was to blame because I wasn't trying hard enough to control my appetite and exercising ( I also have COPD and walking down the street and back is hard on me but I still get out and walk daily). She also would sit there writing in her legal pad every appointment I had with her and rarely even looked up at me.

So, one day, I had enough of this blatant disrespect. I just got up and walked out of her office because I figured I'd show her the same respect she showed me. Then I found another pdoc at a completely new clinic and discussed this with her. The first thing she did was tell me never to take Depakote again and prescribe Risperidone at a low dose, then Prozac for my anti depressant and I have, over time lost some weight.

I had to get my gallbladder removed due to being in major physical pain & they found about 13 gallstones in my gallbladder, so they did emergency surgery and removed it. Since then, which was 2 months ago, I lost 33 pounds. I have other medical issues going on & NOW, both my current pdoc and my physician are worried I'm losing too much weight too fast because other than a little bit of walking, I'm not really trying to lose weight and I'm experiencing weight loss. I LOVE this change but they're worried. So whatever. I'm choosing to be happy. I mean, I weighed 250 pounds before they took my gallbladder out. So 33 pounds less is okay in my book.... I think I need to lose more, actually.

Anyway, IMO, I think Depakote and lithium are both dangerous drugs for people that have a family history of diabetes and we really need to be our own advocates as patients because sometimes, doctors really aren't listening. Sad but true.
Thanks for this!

I've been off it for a de weeks now and have completely lost my appetite. I'm finding it difficult (very) to consume enough calories in a day. I'm losing weight but today I was weak because I couldn't eat enough before work.

Even atypicals can cause trouble for people who have a family history of diabetes. Geodon is the only atypical I've found that is even close to weight neutral for me and I have to take metformin for metabolic syndrome and to ward off diabetes. I feel lucky that I didn't get diabetes when I gained 116 lbs in a year and a half on Saphris, Lithium, and Latuda (Yes all three at once, in addition to like 7 other meds.) I've lost some of the weight but it's a struggle even just with Geodon. I think the dose is too high.
