So a few months ago I started on abilify. I began at 5mg, then 10 days later moved to 10mg. At this time, I became what my pdoc said was hypomanic. She then upped it to 15mg to try and drown out the mania and I got severe derealization and depersonalization side effects. I asked to switch meds, but instead she put me back to 10mg. Now I am back to how I felt before - I can't seem to stay on one task for more than a couple of minutes, my thoughts are so scattered and I feel like time can't possibly go fast enough. I'm bored out of my mind no matter what I'm doing and constantly wanting to move to the next thing. I know restlessness is a side effect of abilify but this is completely extreme. I find myself doing laps around my house and wanting to always be doing something else but not finishing the first thing that I started. However, aside from early waking I am sleeping almost fine. Does anyone else experience this? Any advice? PLEASE, I feel like I'm going to lose my mind here.

It sounds more like Akathisia which can be severe, I had it on abilify where I couldn't sit still and paced for hours around my house. It would be best to ask your pdoc though

Definitely talk to your pdoc about it. i have never been on abilify, but everyone has different reactions or it could be a sign of something else. Just be honest about what you are going through.

I know that this is a little late....Abilify gave my partner a speedy effect where it gave me brain zaps and headaches.
Abilify is an atypical antipsychotic, so it shouldn't drive you hypomanic, but the opposite. Since this all began when you started taking, I'd much rather say it's a bad side effect to the drug. I can't take most antipsychotics because I have bad reactions to them, from cold sweats, brain zaps, pass out, no sleep, vivid dreams, nightmares, over sleeping, etc. Me myself would ask for another AP. The Respiradal 1mg PRN is the most that I can tolerate....and I don't even take that. Good luck hun |

Wrong med for you, i think. Why don't she change it? Don't know what meds you've been on before though
