I just started taking Geodon last Wednesday, 40mg at night. Just wondering if anyone has experienced a loss of appetite? Before starting this I was having crazy cravings for sugar, now I'm having to force myself to eat. It's not like I'm experiencing gastro issues, I'm just not hungry. If this continues great because I have fifteen more pounds to lose from Seroquel and Depakote.

I know it is not a good thing, but awww, I so need that . . . lol. Never been on Geodon, but you contact your pdoc with any concerns.

Make sure you EAT with geodon. Its fine not to be hungry inbetween but you must eat with it.

I didnt at first either as my appetite was less and I didnt know, now I have the worst acid reflux, I never had a problem with it before geodon. In saying that the benefits outweigh the cons.
Thanks for this!

Lately I haven't been as hungry, but it's for reasons other than geodon. Overall geodon hasn't affected my appetite at all, which is nice because I was on seroquel before and it made me want to eat everything and constantly feel starving.

For me it's a pain having to eat with it though.

I understand your frustrations with Seroquel, that's what I came off of a few months ago. I would binge eat and sleep eat as well. It was like I was never full. I'm on diabetes medication because of Seroquel. Hopefully soon I will be off the diabetes medication because my A1C has been below 6.0 for about a year now. These meds can be nasty. I hope the Geodon works out for you and me

I think I figured it out. This all started with the sugar cravings when I started taking Trazadone when I was coming off Seroquel. I thought it was because my pdoc took me off of topamax when I was officially done with Seroquel. He had me stop the Trazadone when I started the Geodon last Wednesday because the two together can cause problems with your heart rhythm. I know I was on a low dose, but I read that you can gain weight on Trazadone. I hope this isn't a fluke. Thanks everyone

I make sure to eat with it because of the absorption rate. Thanks for the reminder.

I had to come off the trazadone because of an abnormal ekg too. I can't remember now if that was because if a combo with depakote or trileptal.

The odd thing for me now is that with the seroquel I am finding I don't feel like eating which is totally opposite of what most people feel like on it. It may change later. I have no sugar cravings with it either. We will see.

Trazodone can cause heart issues?

I know geodon can, especially when seroquel and geodon are taken together. I hope trazodone doesn't! I take it every night. My pdoc didn't say anything about it.

When I was on seroquel I used to pace around moaning about how hungry I was, and I would eat jars of jam (eww!), and bags of m&ms. It was terrible. And I swear it made me smoke more too. Never again!

That happened to me. Geodon gave me a lowered appetite and I had to force myself to eat.

I actually lost weight when I went on Geodon. I gained it back when I went on Zyprexa though. Now I'm holding steady and my A1C is 5.8, so my diabetes is under good control. (I was diabetic before I started APs.)

Just because something can cause heart issues doesn't mean it will. My dr ordered the ekg to check it out and it was abnormal. After I got off the trazadone I had to see a cardiologist and when he did a 2nd ekg it was back to normal again.

I gained a lot of weight on Seroquel, so I'm very glad that Geodon is causing my appetite to lessen. It's a relief not to have that insane craving for sugar that Seroquel gave me.

I see you are on Depakote. I personally put on forty pounds in about four months on that years ago.

I'm glad your diabetes is stable. I hope they take me off of metformin soon.

I think it all depends on the pdoc. My pdoc is very cautious. I'm glad he tells me his reasoning when he makes changes.

So it is suppressing your appetite? I swear it was from coming off of Trazadone, but because a medicine was given when one was ended it's hard to know for me.

The only AP that has a noticeable effect on my appetite is seroquel. Even at just 25mg at night for sleep I end up binge eating before falling asleep. I've just reduced the amount of snackable items I buy when doing my groceries.

Geodon hasn't really done much to my appetite in terms of increasing or diminishing it. I am on a very low dose though; 20mg twice a day.

I'm not sure the Geodon exactly suppresses my appetite, it seems to make my appetite normal. Maybe slightly suppressed. Which is fine...I mean, normal is okay. Depakote and Seroquel made my appetite go crazy. Felt like I was extremely hungry, even when I'd just eaten.

This is making want to request Geodon next time I see the doc...
I've gained at least 40lbs. from Paxil a few of years ago, and my current job is so sedentary, I've put on a few more over time..
