Do any of you watch this show? I feel it is a great show and I'm re watching it now. Those of you that have seen it do you feel her mania is anything like we suffer in real life? I was watching an episode in which he was reprimanded and dismissed, she started crying (depressed) and started some relaxation techniques listening to jazz music then went full blown manic got dressed up and went to a bar to pick up a man. I think this is a mixed episode and I could recall a moment when I was upset in tears and then partied all night.

I really like this show and identify with her a lot. I feel her mania and frustration. It is very hard when people think you are being paranoid when there is a sliver of truth in there.

"My kingdom for a green pen!!"

Though I've never been officially manic, I found that whole episode (as in BP episode) very relatable. The feverish organizing and thought-connections. I would have totally flipped out to have people burst in and tear down the genius too! NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Their depiction of depression (vegged and disconnected in the blue room in the dark) was good too, though it lacked the interminable feel of it. Guess they couldn't really do that though. Who'd tune in or a realistic portayal of that aspect after all?(!)

One thing that bothered me though was how they showed her med routine, which is to say not a routine. Sure, I get the whole "can't do things properly thanks to work culture restrictions" thing, but somehow it didn't set right.

I think they do a good job of it. (Certainly better than many others!) (I've seen all that is a available on dvd, so can't comment on anything that's happened beyond that.)

I can't decide what I think of this show. She seems very unstable even when she is supposed to be. And the genius that comes out of her when she is full blown manic isn't something I've ever experienced.

I really like the portrayal of bipolar in "Homeland." The discrete episodes of high and low mood are much more like my own experience than "Silver Linings Playbook" where they just seemed to show a hodge-podge of symptoms. I've only seen up to Season Three. What season are they on now?

Season 5 starts in 2 weeks. Season 4 was good except for the last episode. They didn't need the last episode.

She is a genius regardless. Look at her job.
But the connections she makes when manic, are exactly how I feel when manic. But clearly not as drastic as hers.

I have bipolar I with mixed episode and love the show. I've done things she has. I've been manic and obsessed with an idea or going from crying to impulsively going to a bar engaging in really risky behavior I'm lucky never hurt me. Great show no wonder she won a bunch of Emmys for it b

I love it and I do think it relates to me except for her extreme paranoia. As I've said before we are a very intelligent group of people. Sometimes however we are misunderstood. I think the times she is successful in the show is when she is in a hypo manic state (kind of like myself...I do my best work then). It's when she slides into the full blown manic part and becomes suspicious that everyone is out to get here and she is up for days working on some theory that might be there or not. Then I think she crashes or has a breakdown and has to go back into the hospital. Some people around her think she is just a plain lunatic but there are others like Saul that see who she truly is and the genius she brings to the table and accepts the other behavior as well. Love the show actually. Can you tell? LOL

I saw a preview of the new season, and she is sitting on the floor surrounding by papers and pictures saying "I've totally figured it out! It all makes sense!"
I basically did the same thing in my apartment, surrounded by random papers that I thought were significant, and I thought I had discovered the secret of the universe. I figured it out!
So yeah, I think her portrayal is great. I also like that they show that a person with bipolar can be amazing at what they do. I love that show and can't wait for October!

It's on showtime. You might be able to stream it online if you don't have it in your cable package.
