My pdoc prescribed gabapentin yesterday for anxiety, agitation, racing thoughts, and obsessive thinking. I am already on depakote, abilify, wellbutrin and xanax but these meds were not doing the job. I am a nervous wreck all day, every day.

Anyone have experience with gabapentin for these symptoms? pros? cons?

Thanks in advance!

I take gabapentin for fibromyalgia but I could see how it would help with anxiety. It has a slightly sedative effect. For reference I take 300mg 3x day.

I take it for anxiety. It's not nearly as effective as a benzo but it smooths the edges a bit. And I have no withdrawal symptom if I don't take it.

They are weaning me off of klonopin and put me on gabapentin. It is very different because you take it daily, but after about 5 days at the full dose (300mg x 3/day) I always feel calm. I was really skeptical at first, but now I like it.

Really? I just take it every once in a while. I'll have to try what you're doing. I notice it helps a little as a PRN but I didn't realize it built up in your system.
