I'm diagnosed with borderline personality and bipolar 2. Im currently coming off a hypomania episode while adjusting to new meds. It's only been 4 days but this aggression is not going away (but other symptoms improving). Anyone experience this? How long does it last? When will my meds work? And are their specific meds that help with this? I was put on risperdal a few years ago because of this and it helped. So my doc doubled my dose. But it's just not registering yet and I'm getting frustrated here.

Seroquel, Zyprexa, and abilify have all helped me with agression. Seroquel Zyprexa almost immediately. Abilify took a couple of days.

Your condition sounds a lot like mine - hypomania, come down, get angry. I take Depakote and it has worked very well for me. It's actually a medication prescribed for seizure disorders but they found it to have dual efficacy when it comes to BP or BPD.

I still get angry but my outbursts and how I act on the anger have tapered considerably.

It took a while for the meds to work - a month or so. I went from 500 to 1000 to 1500 where I am now. I was on 750/750 but I was nodding off in the middle of the day so my p-doc changed it to 500/500/500 and it's been gold for me.

I've just read quite a few articles about Wellbutrin causing rage and that people with BP should only take AD as last resort. So I'm just going to quit this and maybe talk to my pdoc about a mood stabilizer instead. I was thinking lamictal.

Only thing I worry with about depakote is the weight gain.

Xanax chills me out although most pdocs don't prescribe it long term. I don't have much a temper - I take it for GAD and Panic Disorder. But it does chill me out!

Geodon and Seroquel, for me, have a more subtle but noticeable effect.

Saphris has helped me. I haven't had any hypomanic states since the doctor raised it to 20mg

Saphris really dulls the rage for me. Of course it knocks me out in the process.

Lauta and lamictal have helped the most.

I don't do well at all on AD

Each of us has different ways of responding to meds so what works for other might not work for you. My preference is a mood stabilizer and AP.

Lorazepam(=ativan) as needed when I become agitated.

Paradoxically, alprazolam(=xanax) can make me really irritable. It was great for anxiety, but I could get really pissed off if something grated me the wrong way.
