I need to get to the point where I can manage my bipolar without needing my parents' support every day (when I don't live at home). I'll have a psychiatrist and therapist. I have bipolar 1. Usually I get very manic when I leave home maybe because of the freedom. But I need to have more control over my bipolar and stay safe away from home.

You can discuss with your therapist various coping skills you can use when in episodes. Maybe DBT would be helpful.

Hi paradox. It might help to think of what you're doing as managing w/o your parents' help, because as you say you do have a support team in the form of a therapist and pdoc. Work closely with them and make sure they know your tendency to become manic when away from home. I wish you all the best.
