I never thought seroquel was considered a mood stabilizer myself. But today I called the nurse at my pdoc anD requested lamictal. She said she couldn't because I'm on seroquel and seroquel is a mood stabilizer. Sooo I'm confused. I only take 100 mgs seroquel PRN.

That's weird, I took both - recently. I am still learning what is what, but the only reason I changed from Seroquel was to try Latuda since it has less weight gain (usually).

seroquel came out initially as an anti-psychotic. but, its often used for off label things like mood stabilization and sleep

Seroquel is "antimanic; may reduce cycling; antipsychotic; augmentation of antidepressants." I guess maybe the "may reduce cycling" might qualify it as a mood stabilizer but I don't think that's its primary use.

I've been prescribed both Seroquel and Lamictal, took both at the same time.

Seroquel is an off-label mood stabilizer, supposedly. It doesn't stabilize my moods, it just helps me sleep. I have found Geodon to be a much better mood stabilizer. But that's me.

When I was just on seroquel and lamictal, I felt that seroquel was working as a good mood stabilizer since whenever I would try stopping it I would get really depressed, and I was only on 300mg of it.

Seroquel and Lamictal is a very common combo for Bipolar.

Im assuming your taking straight Seroquel.. Have you tried the Seroquel XR ? Straight Seroquel didn't help me much. The XR really helped level me out in the past.

I was on both for several years twice, by two different pdocs. That idiot needs to do some research or get a new job.

It's working for me so far. Nothing else has. However I have only been taking it for almost 3 weeks so I need more time to say for certain. I rapidly cycle with a baseline of low depression or mixed but so far the depression has stayed away. I also take paxil and ativan with it plus ramelteon for sleep. Seroquel does not help me sleep. The ativan helps me with both side effects and sleep.

Here's another with Seroquel & Lamictal combo.

Seroquel works well for my manic & mixed symptoms like insomnia, irritation, racing thoughts, paranoia... I don't use it regularly but i take 200mg prolong daily if things feel to start getting out of control. Also 50 mg for insomnia only sometimes. It is described as atypical antipsychotic and seems to work pretty much that way for me. I don't find it helping my depression at all

Lamictal stabilizes mood well and gives a great relief for anxiety. Depressed mood stays away, but i can recognize if there's depression in the background by general exhaustion, lack of motivation and decision making.

Seroquel can act as a mood stabiliser over 200mg. Any dose under that is a tranquiliser for short term use. But tends to turn into long term because people think it helps them when it's really no differnt to getting blind drunk for a night to deal and pdocs don't really care as long as it's working for the people who don't react nor research medication.

Lmao. Going blind drunk pretty much describes seroquel perfectly. I took 200mgs to sleep last night and now I feel like crap.

my doc considers seroquel a mood stabilizer. I take it daily, with lamictal daily as well. I have rapid cycling BP2 with mixed features, tending mainly towards depression. I also tend to have significant sleep issues when cycling which is why I started the seroquel.

I take 250mgs a day and it is considered a psychotropic drug as well as a mood stabilizer (in smaller doses). You might look into caramazapine and lamotrigine, which are both used as mood stabilizers.

200 mg lamictal/day and 200 mg seroquel xr/day. I was on 300 mg of seroquel xr for a few weeks when I first started but it made me soooooo tired and hungover-feeling the next day. the 200 mg seems to function as a mood stabilizer and antidepressant (people have told me repeatedly it doesn't work that way, I just know that on lamictal alone I still had occasional depression and it's stayed away since I started the seroquel) without making me tired or hungover the next day.
