I'm going to the psychiatrist this morning & need to try a new mood stabiliser. Tried lithium but seemed to calm me down but make me depressed. I'm thinking lamictal? Or maybe even valproate, I know it may be sedating which I hate but I think it's sedation is gaba related??? Which is a little different to the others & I'm willing to give a go. Could it possibly help anxiety too??? Totally against taking antipsychotics, don't even know why I'm just avoiding them for the side effects atm. Any thoughts?

I take Trileptal and the only negative side effect I've noticed is sedation, so I take it at night and it seems to help me sleep with no grogginess in the morning. Good luck with your Psych. appt.

Depakote was pretty good for anxiety for me. Except at the beginning I didn't find it that sedating. Hard to get going in the morning on a high dose but that was combined with several other sedatives and it was a really high dose. Weight gain was my biggest issue with that one and weight gain is supposed to be dose dependent so if you can stay at a reasonable dose it probably isn't so bad.

I've been on lamictal a year and a half with no negative side effects. It's worked well for me as a mood stabilizer and anti-depressant.

Good luck! Lamictal is side effect free and weight neutral.

Yeah, lamictal is great. I've been on it for four years now, with no side effects, except I think it's making my hair thinner but it's not really noticeable. Good luck!

So he put me back on lithium. Wanted to try seroquel but I've been there done that & don't want anymore antipsychotics at this stage. I know he's a pdoc but he's met me twice & I need to be open to & hopeful of my treatment not afraid of it. So back to lithium, feels it may be better now I'm on an ssri that's working & my depression it's nowhere near as severe as when I went on lithium last time. Last time I feel like it restricted me. I felt depressed still & getting more depressed, I fear that it brings me too far down? I don't know I was hoping for a different option but this is what he wants me to do. I was really hoping to try lamictal.

Wanderlust, first and foremost.......LOVE the Robert Plant pic.

I take Depakote - it seems to work well enough. I'm still not 100% but I'm under no illusion that medication is the only answer. I *try* to mediate and live a clean lifestyle by sleeping, eating well, and working out, but life sort of gets in the way here and there. My biggest complaint is that it has taken the hop out of my step. It takes away the hypomania but the hypomania didn't really work well for me either (made me angry) so it is give and take, I suppose.

Ah yes, sleep......here it is 1:00 AM. Duh, time for bed!

I am on Lamitical now and it seems to be helping, he recently upped my dose from 50 to 100 and I'm having trouble with feeling tired alot but I think after a few weeks it will pan out.
