I've been looking for a second job so far with no luck. Should I apply to one of the fast food places I feel embarrassed in my 30s and working at McDonald's. Doesn't mean I'm a failure?

IMO there is no shame in doing honest work.......wherever or whatever it may be....if you need a part-time job then do what you need to do and what you can handle.

True. You're not a failure at all. I felt embarrassed to an extent a few years back when I had to work at my local Walmart, but mostly bc I had to see everyone I know from my town. But whatever, I got over it. I ended up getting a better job, but you gotta do what you gotta do!

Anyone earning an honest living should be respected.
It isn't as easy to earn an honest living as it seems

Exactly this. No shame at all. I'd go for it. I worked for Taco Bell for several years, and I'd do it again in a minute as a part-time 2nd job. We had a couple employees that worked evenings/nights as a second job when I was there.
Thanks for this!

The only reason fast food jobs are less respected, is because the big chains don't pay the employees enough to support themselves. Which doesn't say anything about the employees. There are easier jobs that pay way more and get more respect, despite being easier. So don't let the foolish mentality of judgemental people get in your way. Their views don't even make much sense.

It was the same way when I worked in nursing homes. I was a caregiver/CNA, and of all the jobs in a facility, caregiving was by far the most stressful, difficult and labor-intensive, but we made the least amount of money by far compared to everyone else, and we also got disrespected a lot by other staff, as though we were *lowly*. Truth be told they couldn't handle the work we did, and we worked our butts off, and the facility would have been screwed without us. We just made little money because it's common and accepted in the industry to pay caregivers just a pinch above minimum wage.

Never has anything to do with the employees or even the job itself, only the pay, which is a reflection of a company and not of the employees.
Thanks for this!

I guess I shouldn't be ashamed. I am hoping my old college job calls (Starbucks). I really enjoyed making drinks.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I worked at McDonalds a few years ago before I graduated college, and I enjoyed that far more than working in the field I went to school for. I ended up quitting my field a few months ago in favor of working in retail, simply because it doesn't stress me out nearly as much.
Thanks for this!

Nothing to be ashamed of. Maybe it would help to set some goals for your time there (eg. becoming a shift supervisor of manager)?

I don't think you should be embarrassed. You're not a failure at all. As others have said there's no shame in honest work. I have been out of work for three years due to bipolar, and am just getting stable enough to get back in the job market. I'll happily take whatever job I can get.

No, you would not be a failure! Grandparents work at McD's! McD's love to get adults instead of kids because they have work ethics and work hard at what they do.

Go for it.
