I know there is a thread about this, but let me ask again. Do cold meds, sudafed, etc, effect you?
I have been taking enough meds to tranquilize a horse and I am still up all night. Last night I took a sleeping pill, and ativan, a muscle relaxant, tylenol PM and theraflu. I still only slept for a few hours at a time. I saw a doctor today and got prescribed cough med with codeine to add to the mix. I told him I was bipolar. It will be an interesting night. |

Thank you. Do you think meds can effect you hypomanically? I am assuming they did last night. The only time I can't sleep is when I am cycling.

Yep, they are affecting me. I just took a big swig of codeine cough syrup and the doctor said take it in bed. Now I am feeling wired.

Interestingly I find my mood elevates when I am suffering from cold or flu regardless of if I take medication.
The cold medication can affect you, more likely to be psuedoephadrine in the mix somewhere thats setting you off. |

Pseudophedrine makes me wired and opiates keep me awake because I experience mild euphoria. Nighttime medicine knocks me out though—I'm not sure if it's the cough suppressant or antihistamine that does it.

The doctor asked if I wanted the "light" cough syrup with codeine or the "hard" one with oxycodeine.
I said the light. It has helped my cough but It is not making me drowsy at all and I really need it every 4 hours like the bottle says. This is a pain in the butt. It is the worst virus I have had in a long time. |

Take a good pro-biotic to give your immune system the help it needs...

I did too much. I went on vacation, got a tattoo (so I am healing, stress for body), flew home with a sick passenger behind me, and then had my intravenous Tysabri-which is an immune modulator for my Multiple Sclerosis.
I push myself of vacation. Now I am sick and taking meds which could destabilize me. UGH... I hope to get some good quality sleep and take it easy for the next few days. My Mom and bro are flying to New York for the World Series but I put my foot down and said I can not go. I just need some down time to recuperate. Just don't want to cycle. |

Sedation has never been a side effect I experience, meds that are designed to knock me out rarely even do, and if they manage to somehow pull it off, I build up a tolerance fairly quickly.
Hope you get the rest you need.

It is strange looking back on things before being diagnosed. Meds have always effected me differently than people without bipolar. I just never knew what my diagnosis was. |
