Hi all. I have to go to a wedding where many of my family members are attending. I would prefer not to be there but I feel I must go. My relationship is kind of disconnected from them. They don't call me unless something has happened or someone needs something - and even that is a rare call. For holidays I might get a text of good wishes. When I tried in the past to make regular calls to my sister or brother, she most of the time let me go to voicemail and didn't call back. My brother would talk, but neither of them would initiate calls to me. I feel like the unwanted step-child. Everyone will be happy and chatty tomorrow - I know that everyone will act happy to see me. But I know it won't last once the day is over. What to do? My best I guess.

I don't know who's getting married, but be there for them, not the rest of your family.

You are right, do your best and that is all you can do.
Also, remember that you are the better person for being there.

I feel you. I've got a strained relationship with most of my extended family as well as my parents and always dreaded family events.I actually had a major episode a year and a half ago over my treatment and my siblings treatment at a cousins wedding. Anyway I'll be honest I don't go to family events out of duty anymore. It's stressful and a lot of those people are triggers for raw emotions which I have trouble controlling even on my meds. I'm lucky I am tight with my Dads second ex wife who is basically my Mom and my brother so I stick by them and keep everyone else who is unsupportive at a distance. I wish you luck and know that pain it sucks.
