There is too much noise in this world
Blaring exhausts on jack-up trucks Tuner cars and the pumping bass Traffic, traffic and more traffic Sometimes I just can't do it and don't know where to get away from it. Do you have a quiet place to go?

I can relate. The times I've wished I could lock myself away in a quiet room are too many. The times I've wished I could rip my ears off...
The world can be so overwhelming sometimes. So loud and chaotic. My quiet place is nature. I feel so happy and calm when I'm in the middle of the woods and nothing can be heard for miles. It's so peaceful.

I get bad noise sensitivity sometimes. I live in the city, so boy can I relate to your post. Sometimes I even have to take the batteries out of my clocks. Ironically, certain music doesn't bother me, so I'll put headphones on to drown everything else out. I like to try to make my house quiet and read too if I can. I find the music works best for me though.

I agree, it is so hard to just get quiet these days. I try to make quiet spaces in my house if I can - go up to my craft room after my daughter has gone to bed, or take a bath with some quiet music on. Sometimes I find I just need to quiet my head more than anything and I will go to this cute little cafe that we have in town here, it's low light, and pretty quiet and it helps me to get some peace.

My boyfriend and I went camping last week and it sucked coming back home to all the noise of all the people everywhere. We would totally live out in the middle of nowhere if we could. Getting time where theres complete silence or at the most white noise is essential to rebooting my brain, so to speak. When hypomanic I am hypersensitive so its especially crucial to get quiet time, although I need it regardless of what state I am in.

I moved to the wooded hills of the Ozarks from Dallas before for 20 years....aaaah the natural peace....stress free. Because of no work, I'm back into a city crammed in.
But, the quieter it is, the noiser it is in between my ears with all the constant head chatter of the others and ringing noises. I actually have to have constant noise even though I don't want it. |

Amen. Noises, especially when I focus on them instead of the task at hand, can make me severely disassociate. It can be pretty intense and scary.

Just as I am swinging into a happy mood up from depression I go through a stage of irritability where I am really sensitive to stimuli - like sounds. The skateboard shop down the street uses an empty parking lot behind me as a skate park and the sound lately has been really exasperating.

I become sensitive to noise when I'm feeling agitated, as a general across-the-board feeling. It's like my brain hones in on one noise and then another, jumping around, and it feels like it's grating on my brain.
The last time I was at work I noticed it happening. All of the customers were making so many noises.. sniffling, mumbling, shuffling. The coffee pots were trickling. The registers were making sounds. The music coming out of the ceiling felt louder than usual. The traffic outside. People talking all around me, in different tones and volumes and speeds. Someone smashing boxes in the back room a few feet away. And the lights in the store seemed insanely bright. I had to try really hard to focus on each customer in front of me and what they were saying. I've been dealing with this sort of issue since I was a kid, though, so not sure that it's entirely BP related. I have to have a lot of white noise like a big box fan at night, or I won't be able to sleep. |

I'm lucky my house is fairly well insulated so I don't get a lot of outside noise. Which is good but I do have to deal with noise from the tv. My husband keeps it on all the time.

I'm surrounded by white noise at home because my husband has tinnitus and the noise drowns the ringing out. But outside the house it gets very annoying.

Did you buy a white noise machine or do you create your own with a fan (etc.)?

The sound of two or more TVs with different shows on drives me batty. So does being in places where I can't control the noise, e.g. parties, concerts etc. It really limits my options for entertainment but I can't help it. I get irritable and start snapping at people. It's like having a splinter in your finger that you can't get rid of.

I was just thinking about noise today.
Today my irritation was voices. There are certain voices that drive me crazy. I am kind of irritable these last few days, and I was in the grocery store today and a young woman spoke in such an annoying way that I could not even stand next to her. Kind of a young hipster with this fake voice. She was reading ingredients outloud to herself in this very overly important voice. I wanted to scream! |

Yeaaah, I agree. I live in a city too and it gets on my nerves.
I plan to move to a town or the countryside in the future, for a simpler life. I love nature.

I used to get terribly upset over noise. Once there was a dog barking in the distance. I grew so frustrated that I went out back on my deck and started barking too. I was not stable then, but now that I am, noise doesn't bother me as much.
