I am diagnosed Bipolar 1 and I am on Lithium Carbonate. My mood stays in mania usually.

I have read the reviews of Lithium Orotate over the internet and people with Bipolar II are specially recommending it to get rid of depression and anxiety.

I was wondering if I can replace my lithium carbonate with Lithium orotate for maintenance of bipolar 1 to avoid side effects like slow thinking. Currently I am taking 300 mg of Lithium carbonate tablet, one in day and one in night (total 600 mg), how much Orotate mg is equivalent to this.

I don't know much Lithium Orotate other than it exists as I am on Lithium Carbonate. However if you haven't had labs done you should because 600mg is slightly on the low dose side so you may not have enough in your body to truly be effective. I take 1200mg for example and that puts me smack dab in the middle of the effective range when I have my labs drawn and checked.

I take Lithium Carbonate too. I have BP1 and my main symptom is mania. It has really helped stabilize me but it also has caused cognitive disfunction. Like the slow thinking you mentioned.

I am wondering why you people are using double or triple mg than me. My pdoc put me on 600 mg of Lithium Carbonate for maintenance and to avoid the relapse only, not to cure the mania or depression. My mania relapse usually occur once in a year (and recently i have started taking medications regularly).

My length of relapse is better than many people here may be because I dont drink alcohol.

I will go for lab test after 3-4 days and let's see what the report has to say, but I am happy with the lithium carbonate. The only downside of this medicine is the brain fog which I want to get rid of. Lithium orotate seems an option which I want to explore.

I was on Lithium Carbonate 600mg daily, 300mg in the morning and 300mg in the evening. I experienced the "brain fog" as you say and I was forgetting simple things and I just didn't like it, and I was on it for a few months and it never subsided like the other side effects that I experienced when I first started taking it, it helped with my manic episodes and my anger but the "brain fog" was just too much for me. so I told my doc and I stopped on my own and when I saw him again and he then put me on 1250mg daily of Depakote and that was worse. I am now seeing a new doc on the 7th of this month and I am hoping to get different results. Good luck to you dear and I hope you have better results than I did.

Are you BP1 or BP2, Do you have mania symptoms or depression or both? Please explore the Lithium orotate option from your Pdoc and provide his response here. I will do the same. My visit is on 9th this month.
