It is a buy-fest now. I see people spending thousands on their kids, and then panic when the bills come in.
Can we ever get back to what it means?

No offense, but in order to get back to what Christmas really means, we'd all have to become very Christian again. I don't see that happening anytime soon in our society, and I don't really want it for myself. Perhaps there are many people who see Christmas as the celebration of the birth of Christ, but I don't know too many that do. To most, it's just the time when you give and receive gifts to and from the people you love. The people who invest time and effort into Christmas get the most satisfaction from it.
