Do you have great family support in you mental health struggle? Are you open about everything?

I Basically have to hide it all because they don't understand or support me. If they do find something out it's usually met with discussed or sarcasm which really hurts. I'm sure they love me and maybe it's just because they don't understand my illnesses but nonetheless I need them and they're not there.

I feel the same way! I hide it from almost everyone, and the few that do know about it I feel don't understand how it truly feels or affects me. I don't fully understand it myself, so how can I expect them to? Maybe additional research on their own? Maybe talking about it during the good times, just not the bad? It's been almost 2 years for me, and I wish I had a better answer myself! Hang in there!

It's all good, just frustrating. My friends that know stil don't understand so they can be harsh when I'm not doing great!

It's hard for people to understand if they don't experience it. I have a friend that says all I need to do is pray and go to church and I'll be okay. She means well but doesn't have a clue about how it feels.

My husband tries to understand and give me space.

My daughter chooses to ignore it.

Everyone reacts differently and we have to learn to accept them. If they or toxic we have the choice of ending our relationship with them.

Only my closest family members know about it. Excluding my kids, they are too young to understand so i've decided to tell maybe later.

My wife is very supportive. Parents and sister never mention anything about it. Well, it's ok for me.

I don't know if the rumor has spread and any friends know, i don't really care as long as it's not effecting those relationships.

Three of my kids just ignore it because they don't know how to handle it if I do say something - which is rare

I have one daughter who tries really hard to understand and keep in touch with how I am doing - but I never just "lay it all out there" because there's no way she can truly understand and I don't want to burden her.

A lot of it is my fault for not trusting others, someone, anyone to truly care......even though I would love to have that.

My family doesn't believe in it. My partner tries but is way too hard on me about it. I end up feeling like it is all my fault. My friends are scared of it.

I've been trying to get people to understand the ramifications of all those ECT and high doses of meds in the hospital.
I forgot one of my best friends have a dog, for example.
I like to have a drink now and then, but it's not a great idea with the meds.
I've been bipolar since 19 or maybe even earlier.
My marriage has lasted 20 years and my husband still doesn't understand and like I said before I'm scared of him cause he puts me in the hospital often.
I want to stay down here in Costa Rica, but have to wait for him to agree.
I'm used to doing what I want when I want.

I'm very blessed. My wife and I studied about bipolar together after my last IP. She is awesome. Other family members know. My brother is cool about it. My mom has some PTSD from my father's mania from 25 years ago, so it's a sensitive subject for her. I have to not get too detailed with her or she gets very worried, so I just keep it basic for her.
