Someone posted in another thread they were different but didn't explain why. What are the differences?
I ask because I am in the middle of a psychiatric assessment. The doctor suspects I have bipolar disorder because of my history of depression, psychosis and severe agitation.

The biggest factor in determining depression vs bipolar is still going to be the presence of hypomania or mania along with depressions. There are studies that indicate that bipolar people have higher instances of atypical depressions than do people with major depressive disorder but you still have it in both populations so it's limited to use diagnostically.
