How good is it (e.g. working memory)? Was it better or worse before your first (hypo)mania, before and after taking meds?

Would you say your memory (retrieval) works (somewhat) differently than that of most people you know?

Are you good at remembering arbitrary (and formal or procedural) stuff, like a series of digits, vocabulary, directions?

Do memories have any influence on your emotional state? On your level of anxiety? What about emotions/mood changing what you can remember?

Mania kills cells. Brain cells die. Memories become more reduced conceptually, making more efficient use of limited means. Memories shape our reality. Our memories are more or less split in two by abstractions, conceptual reductions. Mood states with memories, concepts, attached. Memories of pain and those of joy. It causes instability, changeability. Fearing that will leave an emptiness between pain and joy and a greater divide.

Memory
Barbra Streisand
Midnight
Not a sound from the pavement
Has the moon lost her memory
She is smiling alone
In the lamplight
The withered leaves collect at my feet
And the wind begins to moan
Memory, all alone in the moonlight
I can dream of the old days
Life was beautiful then
I remember the time I knew what happiness was
Let the memory live again
Every street lamp seems to beat
A fatalistic warning
Someone mutters and the street lamp sputters
Soon it will be morning
Daylight
I must wait for the sunrise
I must think of a new life and
I mustn't give in
When the dawn comes
Tonight will be a memory too
And a new day will begin
Burnt out ends of smoky days
The stale court smell of morning
A street lamp dies
Another night is over
Another day is dawning
Touch me,
It is so easy to leave me

it was a lot better before any diagnoses!.

people used to call me the walking addressbook, because i could remember numbers- people's names and addresses, things i needed to do, that sort of thing

now though.... *sighs*, it's totally the oppositte.

if i don't write it down within 30 seconds or less, then i'll never remember it (it might come to me if someone gives me a clue to what i'm trying to think about), but most of the time if it's not written down...

My memory is the same. I've always been an air head.

It was lousy when I was on clonazepam. Couldn't spell simple words or remember names. When writing I could never remember the last sentence.

Now that I'm off things have reverted back to normal.

Working memory sucks. Long term is okay.

I have ADHD, which came before bipolar. Can't tell if bipolar has made it worse. It's already horrible. I can't imagine it getting any worse. Pdoc won't give me medication for it.
