I've seen quite a few on our group that are on Tripatal.
So I went online and read it's primarily for Epilepsy.
Question? Are you on it to prevent convulsions that are a side effect of other drugs?
I did read that it's used on bipolar cocktails.
I'm personally concerned about add-on meds. Instead of changing the med that's hurting me pdocs so easily just add another med to the mix.
I feel like the bride of Frankinston!

I was on trileptal for awhile. There are a few anti seizure drugs that are also used as mood stabilizers. That's what I was on it for.

It's also used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar. Just like Lamictal. I used to take both at the same time, but now just Trileptal. It works well for me. I had side effects with the Lamictal. I have none with Trileptal, and it works better for my depression. It's my main medication.

Trileptal 900mg
Neurontin 800mg
Latuda 20mg
Thanks for this!

When I get back to the states I hope to have a new med plan in place. I'm barely coping with my current meds but somewhat stable.
I may ask for it in place of some of my other meds.
My current Pdoc is ECT crazed.
I'm not going to submit to any more ECT period.
So if I have to get a new pdoc so be it.
The only thing is the long taper off Effexor if I want my sex life back.
Then I need to convince a new pdoc to keep me on Effexor long enough for the taper.
It pi$$es me off that I must learn everything and advocate for myself!!!

Effexor SUCKS to come off of just so you know. Not that you shouldn't do it but be prepared to feel like crap. Brain zaps, dizziness, headache and nausea is what I experienced. And that was just coming off of 37.5 mg. I came off Effexor when I was a teenager by taking it every other day and it was just as bad. I was in high school at the time and would fall asleep in class and experience sleep paralysis. But I got through it. Just be prepared.

I've been on Trileptal since '09 without issues. As previously mentioned anti seizure drugs are used as mood stabilizers for bipolar. I haven't had any side effects with it so I don't want to be off it. It helped me to stabilize in the first place. It's the added antidepressants that are adjusted.

Sounds good. I'm going to try and design my own cocktail.
The trouble is remembering my past drugs. Vyvance. Lamictal. Lithium. Cymbalta. Wellbutrin. Adderal. Valium. Neurontin. (Which was a real bit@h to wean off of for me.

I take it - not for convulsions or epilepsy at all. It is not the first med I have seen for bipolar that also helped seizures. Perhaps the area of brain messed up is close. Idk. I really like it.

edit addition: Lamotrigine also is a bipolar/anti-seizure. It didn't work for me as well as this Trileptal. Neither did Seroquel.

Design your own cocktail? Without a doctor?

No. I'm going to research stuff to tell the pdoc and then see what she decides to prescribe
