Anyone believe in the paranormal here? Do u think we are more open to the psychic world? Could a lot of the voices and hallucinations be real? I wonder because we deal with this in our home everyday. The only way I know I'm not the only one in most cases is my husband and older boys experience the same things.
Anyone else feel like these things are drawn to you? It seems the activity gets worse before a life changing event. But we cleanse the house and it never goes away. Is this just another thing some of us have to deal with because our brains function differently? I would like to know if others share these abilities.

Yes. Yes. Possibly. Yes. I don't know.

Also, the awarenesses and abilities run in my family from aunts/uncles to children / nieces/ nephews.

Yes, definitely. During my last episode I had a few things happen that were not mania related, and could not be explained. I think that at my baseline those abilities aren't as strong, but they are still there.

I have had demonic and paranormal activities since I was a child. I had a demon torment me as a kid, but as I got older it became less violent. I still get dreams every once in while with her in it. I know that when I am manic, I tend to have more experiences, but I can't tell if they are hallucinations or real.

When my husband gets real sick he sees apparitions a lot. He has no mental issues but believes when his body is week he can't fend them off. Same for me, during manic everything is more apparent. It runs in my family too but so does mental illness. Just seems like they pair together.

I'm not big on the topic, but cannot deny it because of a direct experience (poltergeist).

Background...There had always been a few family stories involving no-nonsense relatives in situations in which no sort of "anticipation" was involved, so I certainly couldn't catagorically deny the possibility. But neither did I spend much time thinking about it.

What really got my attention though was the next morning. It was at a B&B. While eating breakfast, I overheard a family talking (they were the only others staying there) about things they'd had happen the preceding night. They weren't talking in terms of paranormal, mind you. But neither could anyone explain the happenings. The things they said and what happened to me? Yeah. Then to top it off, it happened in the same time of night. Breakfast clinched it for me.

I hadn't been dx'd at the time, but was seriously hypomanic (it was a major trip and looking back the signs were super obvious). And that had nothing to do with anything that transpired. It was totally confirmed by unwitting parties.

I have had a few strongly felt inexplicables, but I don't think in terms of "drawn to" in either direction. I think that I'm more willing to go with the flow (ie. Not get freaked out) by hallucinations and stuff, than someone with "normal" wiring might, but don't think they're real.

Confusing answer? Guess I'm saying yes, paranormal can be real, but that I don't think our ...let's call them "special mental experiences" are typically a reflection of that.

I used to believe that I was being disturbed and haunted by demons and, concurrently, that God and the Holy Spirit were talking to me. I hallucinated the voice of God and I saw a vision of Jesus coming on the clouds. I knew at the time that Jesus wasn't literally coming on the clouds but the vision had me cry out Maranatha (Oh Lord, come) which I believed was summoning Jesus (as I believed that God answered my prayers as I prayed them).

Now though, when I hear voices (especially coming through electronics), I chalk them up to hallucinations and nothing more.

Throughout my life I have experienced paranormal activity. Most of it I believed were real; demons, ghosts, poltergeist. Until recently. Since I have been diagnosed with Bipolar I have begun to question the experiences. I think it is a mix of the two; supernatural activity and hallucinations. I have been attacked by demons and heard voices and it is very hard to say these experiences were not real because they seemed so much at the time. Now I am more pragmatic and lean towards hallucinations.

We decided to reach out. My husband has psychic abilities that go beyond what he will talk about and because he pushes them away isn't good at working with them. He finally told me the only reason he even talks about it is so I don't feel like the bp is taking over me. He has agreed to let me reach out. I contacted the psychic institute in kc and I guess our history and activities sparked a lot of interest. I'm guessing our case is severe. I'm waiting for a phone call to have a medium come out and help us in this matter. These aren't the people that charge money only to tell u what u want. I'm so glad we might get an end to this.

When I was doing the prostration during prayer while I was on mania, I couldn't lift my head up for 4-5 minutes, despite trying really hard.

Yes I believe in the paranormal. I've been balanced on my meds and still seen and experienced things that no one can explain to my satisfaction -- I saw the spirit of a friend leave his body during a heart attack (his) and then they shocked him and it fell back in,.. he agreed with me that it had happened. How about that? And that is just one thing. Before cell phones and caller ID I always knew who it was on the phone calling me and could answer the call by name -- so I'm a believer.

I'm glad to hear from other believers. It's a tough subject when mental illness is involved. Since being diagnosed I question my sanity a lot. Seems like that's a normal issue among us that have had experiences.

We had our hour cleansed by a professional medium last night. She told us things we already knew but didn't do that tv crap or try to pry for information. We were both very comfortable and so glad to have her in our home! She gave us a lot of good information at clearing all the negative energy out. Our house was built in 1900 and carries a lot of negative energy not only from the dead but from the people that live here before that are still living which we already knew. She spent about an hour upstairs smudging clearing. That's the heaviest part of house. This morning I could feel the energy change. We still have a long road ahead but at least now I will be able to know what symptoms are mine and mine alone. I've already pun pointed one. She is working with us until our house is fully clear which can take a while. I completely get surrounding yourself with positive energy now. Not just spiritually but scientifically. We got some salt lamps today hopefully they work!

I should mention I have experienced many signs, especially after praying or feeling spiritual as if something is out there givig me assurance. Like the other month I was outside praying at night and asked a question looked up and saw a shooting star. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I'm a believer. I also see blue birds at my house everyday and sometimes robins and I feel like I can always find them whenever I look.

I do believe in paranormal activity. For me, it's more than belief, it's fact. I have seen, heard, felt spirits my whole life and have been given proof that my experiences are real. I also have a touch of ESP,although that comes and goes.I can't just tell someone's future whenever I want to. It seems to have no rhyme or reason but sometimes it comes to me and I'm pretty accurate. That being said, I'm not sure that I would say that my being bipolar has anything to do with any psychic abilities. It just runs in some families or seems to "choose" certain people like a musician doesn't choose his/her calling. It comes to them. It's another ability.

That being said, I do also sometimes have auditory hallucinations but they are very different than my psychic experiences and there's an element of my knowing the hallucinations are not real but they also won't go away without meds to stabilize me.

This is the best I can explain it though it's still kind of vague. I hope you can understand what I'm saying.

I'm sorry for being annoying but I read something that spoke to me, and nothing more than music usually does.

"One way of looking at it is that in the creative and/or intuitive mind, the brain may be inefficient at filtering out so-called irrelevant inputs. Strongly allied to this notion is the idea that creative/intuitive brains may be frighteningly efficient at connecting these so-called irrelevant inputs into something transcendentally relevant"

Bipolar Breakdown: Bipolar and the Paranormal

Now, how ****ing true is that ****??? I need that tattooed on my face.

I can not filter "irrelevant" input, and am quite gifted at connecting them. To a degree which I could only show you in person.

Who feels this?

I know Rob Thomas would. Cobain would.

Hearing everyones thoughts on this is very interesting!

It reminds me also of a blog post I did a few year back - a few supernatural experiences I had when I was younger and the scepticism that came about after I got diagnosed.

When the medium came out last Saturday we talked about me being bipolar and having sensitivities to the paranormal. Actually I didn't tell her the extent of my abilities she told me what I already knew which made me feel so much better! She did express that the mi are more sensitive than others. Mostly because we are more affected by the positive and negative energy in the environment . things are falling into place now!

I really appreciate this post. I have noticed things since I was in 3rd grade (over 40 years). I find cleansing my home and yard, and keeping clean energy in and around my home helps. I notice shifts quickly.

Edit addition: I like this:
