If you ever want to explain (hypo)mania with reference to, or want to check your behaviour against, the DSM, you might find this mnemonic helpful:
MaDRID IS (the a is not really a symptom in the DSM, but is used in some contexts as reference; maybe in the ICD, RDC or earlier versions of the DSM, I forgot), as in: Madrid is the capital of Spain (or: Madrid is, a manic mnemonic; notice the small pause after is). (Psycho)motor agitation Loss of appetite Distractibility Excessive involvement in pleasurable or risky activities (i.e. with the potential of painful consequences) Flight of ideas Decreased need for sleep Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity Pressured speech Hopefully this helps someone!

Mania kills cells. Brain cells die. Memories become more reduced conceptually, making more efficient use of limited means. Memories shape our reality. Our memories are more or less split in two by abstractions, conceptual reductions. Mood states with memories, concepts, attached. Memories of pain and those of joy. It causes instability, changeability. Fearing that will leave an emptiness between pain and joy and a greater divide. See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Heal Me.
