Do you ever feel (or now consider) that we might be just a hibernating animal subspecies of humans?
Mania being our money/freedom caching activity before we inexplicably and unconditionally start our hibernation. Since we are unaware we are actually hibernating animals, we feel great guilt and just want to (or feel like we have to) get on with it. We feel hibernation is coming, so we rush into overactivity, aided by nature to give us that extreme caching ability (which others don't understand or accept, so we fail). Just a side note: hibernation can happen during summer.

Mania kills cells. Brain cells die. Memories become more reduced conceptually, making more efficient use of limited means. Memories shape our reality. Our memories are more or less split in two by abstractions, conceptual reductions. Mood states with memories, concepts, attached. Memories of pain and those of joy. It causes instability, changeability. Fearing that will leave an emptiness between pain and joy and a greater divide. See Me, Feel Me, Touch Me, Heal Me. |

Do you equate hibernation with low grade depression?

Nah. Animals that hibernate or estivate (the summer version) are consistent in time of year and general length of state. Also, the phenomenon (with those inextricably linked features) is universal within a given species. We don't really have that.

No, not just low grade: also the severe post-mania one, having miserably failed to cache any money/freedom/security.
Innerzone, it's just an analogy. Evolution is messy. Call it what you want. Maybe only those with regular yearly patterns will survive, who knows? ![]()

As long as you don't eat (much; only healthy stuff you bought earlier) and certainly nothing containing lots of sugar, during hibernation. Innerzone, sorry to disappoint: measures had to be taken, you said so yourself. ![]()
