I know this has been talked about, but I am very analytical and tend to revisit the question every spring: is this hypomania?
When first diagnosed, I knew I was acting unlike myself. Contrary to popular opinion, as I get older, it's actually even harder to gauge my mood, since I'm so accustum to the different extremes. I have been noticing, energy right when I wake up, more social, and more optimistic, so far. Also, eating a lot, which happens during an upswing for me. What are your transitional signs? Maybe, unique ones aside from lack of sleep? |

I've been noticing a trend quickly upward in a bunch of us on here lately. (Wooo Spring!)
I start feeling like I've had a gang of coffee when I haven't. I start clicking words and thinking fast enough that I jump topics and/or get lost. I drink more and faster to feel normal. I hop around and sing a lot. I also lose appetite, kick up my workouts and spend money like crazy |

Well spring has consistently been the time of year were I experience waves of mania. This time around I'm on lithium and that luckily seems to be keeping things at bay.
As far as transitional signs in the past I would go from feeling very anxious/depressed to a sudden, RAPID, upswing in mood that would take place over the course of like an hour... I would go from self loathing, nervous-wreck mode to euphoric "I don't give a ****!!!!" lunatic mood instantly. then those feelings would mellow out a bit and last for a couple weeks, but kind of ebb and flow in terms of intensity. Now that I'm on (the right) medication, I've noticed a general lift in mood but nothing manic or even hypomanic. I've been feeling more creative, in tune with nature, a little bit paranoid, and talkative. |

That's scary how fast you used to lift off - for me it takes about a week to get fully hypomanic (manic according to doctor). This year I'm feeling it a bit early, but if it is anything at all, at hasn't taken off yet.

I too feel an instant skyrocket. Last year it scared me so much I called my doc immediately. The day before I was making suicide plans, and all of a sudden I was on top of the world. Eeek.

Do you all find that "instant liftoff" is coupled with short episodes?
Because the one time that I got sudden hypomania I smoked a bowl and came down the day after. |

"Instant left off episodes " prbly last like 2-3 weeks and then dissipate into hypomania. "regular mania" for me lasts like 2 months.

I see - I find that to be the case here too.
In essence, the more gradual climbs should be more closely monitored. I usually start to notice around March 20th, but this time it's creepy up as of the 5th. Another thing i am interested about is if episodes tend to become longer as BP progresses. My intuition says yes. I guess time will tell. |

PS - I'm only on wellbutrin. Even my mixed episode lasy year wasn't all that out of control. Yeah, i did some dumb things, but i am so dysthymic by nature that i need that feeling. I can not be flat on seroquel no way jose

Ugh, temperature shot up here in MA (30s ->70s) and I thought of this thread. I have a lot more stuff going on this time of year without fail so I never know if it's the weather or the stress.

I haven't really payed attention to whether of not my mood change with the weather. I feel my cycles have been to rapid to actually tell, but maybe I'll pay more attention to the weather and my moods.

I've actually been craving alcohol and everything that comes with it! Grilling steaks, camping, swimming, walking the dog, sitting out on the belcony with a nice tall cold beer! However... I quit drinking last May. It's currently raining on my parade!

We had a spate of good weather in the middle and last part of February, and I got hypomanic very quickly. Now that the rain has returned my mood has settled down somewhat, but Im still a little hypo as evidenced by difficulty sleeping. physical restlessness (leg won't stop bouncing) and overly optimistic attitude. This is not an unusual situation for me as I tend to go ape-**** in the spring and summer months, and get depressed in the late fall and winter. I'm also not worried about going full-on manic because I'm on a lot of meds which keep me pretty even most of the time.

I come to CR most every year in November. I like the sunshine.
The rainy season doesn't change my mood. It's nice cuz it's cooler.
