Apparently we have a special day dedicated to us.

World Bipolar Day - The International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD)

Quote:
World Bipolar Day (WBD) will be celebrated each year on March 30th, the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh, who was posthumously diagnosed as probably having bipolar disorder. The vision of WBD is to bring world awareness to bipolar disorders and eliminate social stigma. Through international collaboration the goal of World Bipolar Day is to bring the world population information about bipolar disorders that will educate and improve sensitivity towards the illness.
Thanks for this!

What do we celebrate?

I generally am quite the BP evangelist, but why would others see us as cause for celebration. They don't see it like that on any other day. Vincent van Gogh wasn't deemed to be worth a penny in his days. He probably didn't take his life after too much praise and celebration.

Edit:
"Illness", there it is, was just checking: "Yay, you're ill! Let's celebrate!".

"When will we celebrate world cancer day?" "Well, I sure hope I'll make it: is gonna be fun!"

I just stopped by to tell everyone Happy Bipolar Day!

I can't hang around here too much these days. The meds people are on, particularly the benzos, seem to trigger me.
Best of luck to all of you!

Same with Christmas: let's celebrate the guy we nailed to a cross and after that let's ignore everything he said or stood for! Mentally ill sod. He can't help saying all that gibberish: he was ill! See the stigmata: he wouldn't have had those if he just accepted his illness!

Funny PBS didn't cover this with a bunch of educational shows to de-stigmatize the nerotypicals.

I'd be happy if the scientific community could come up with something that could benefit us all.

The best solution is most probably to come up with many different things for many different causes of our syndrome.

That would require far more information about individual differences than what is readily available. The categorical approach to qualifying mental disorders should be dropped, as far as science is concerned—at least.

Abandoning this nosological/categorical approach might also be best in clinical practice, but what replaces it should be equally simple to be practical.

I think that should be possible. My aim is to make that possible and there are luckily enough other people working on that: a more dimensional approach.
