So my pdoc put me on lexapro a few weeks ago and it has helped. Well I'm not my old self yet, far from it. But I have been getting out of my room more and being less hostile. However (TMI coming)... I can't feel a thing... Down there. Ok I know that was too much info but this is a valid complaint on my end. My bf and I always had a healthy intimacy and lexapro has now robbed me of that. I'm really considering stopping this med because of this. I find sex very important with us and to not be able to enjoy it isn't fair to me and it's pretty much making me miserable.

Anyone else have this problem on any meds? How soon does feeling or sex drive come back after stopping?

Any thoughts or advice please. Thanks in advance!

Both ADs I tried, ssri & snri did the same to me & it only gets worse the higher you go in doses. Not taking the vyvanse anymore might have a negative effect on libido too, I know it did for me but with meth, I figure any stimulant withdrawal would do this.

Yup..Effexor. Killed the drive period. I couldn't even help myself! But I was single and it wasn't an issue, but it might have been the reason I was single for so long, because I didn't even care lol. But if it really is a concern I would talk to your doctor, that is a legitimate concern to have. When I had Wellbutrin added it, that helped. But from what I remember, that made you dysphoric. Good luck! I know how crappy that can be.

Yeah antidepressants cause this particular problem. For my husband, it's prozac and delayed orgasm. For me, it's Brintellix.

I found that we do get pleasure from sex, it's just that for it to be mind-blowing we need to allot more time for it - which is not entirely bad.

But I think having a healthy sex life is worth changing medications for. I got off prozac because it killed off my entire sex drive. I can't stress enough that stability should include a healthy sex life.

When my wife was taking Zopiclone (Imovane, Lunesta) she had the same problem her feelings came back about a week after she quit them.

But now we are both taking meds and both of us have the same problem. It sucks but at least we both don't care at the same time now.

Rx: Nothing is worth giving up sex. Unless is life threatening. I'd rather suffer the ups and downs.

Sexual frustration would not work out for me. Unacceptable side effect. I'd seriously rather deal with weight gain as a side effect.

Thank you everyone! So i don't feel so bad about stopping it now. And they were going to increase the dose in May! I think a big "no" to that! It's weird usually I'm not the one that wants sex because of meds in general but now that I can't have it, I want to rebel lol. It's one thing to be lazy about it but not being able to even feel it at all sucks, and not to mention, a little creepy.

My biggest fear: what if I never get feeling back? Is it at all possible that it's ruined me permanently? I would absolutely die.

Maybe you can have Lexapro as PRN? Like, you use it when you really need it (e.g., you're depressed and nothing seems to get you out of that black hole).

Hopefully it hasn't permanently killed your sex drive. (I seriously doubt it will though. I haven't heard of anyone permanently losing their sex drive on Lexapro.)

I think it takes a lot more than an SSRI to permanently damage sexuality.

When I worked in psych we had several men court-ordered to get hormone shots every month to effectively chemically castrate them because they were serious sexual predators. It took quite a bit of depo-provera to do the job and even then some of them would have it start to wear off before the next shot. If an SSRI would have done it everyone would have been happier (you can imagine how happy those men were to get their monthly injections).

Wow chemical castration?! Well, they deserve it! I'd gladly give a sexual predator their monthly shots. That sounds like an interesting/scary job! And yes I'm also on risperdal which does this same thing to me however I only take it PRN because of this reason. I would benefit greatly if I took it regularly but again, it's not worth it. I rather learn tools and techniques in therapy to deal with the emotions rather than taking a med that won't even allow me to enjoy sex.

These were obviously some bad guys...They were mentally ill and not really in control of how they acted out but were dangerous in how they did so the courts ordered the meds.

I loved working there (amazing since I'm a sexual assault survivor and felt scared a lot at first) and now can't believe some of the sentences I can say that are true.

I've lost all interest in sex. Masturbation does nothing. Sex pretty much disgusts me now, even the thought of it.

How is the paxil? Did it effect any physical feeling? I was on it before with no bad side effects but don't remember if it effected me sexually. I was on a pretty high dose too. I'm thinking about trying that out again instead.

I didn't have any sexual side effects from Paxil, but I gained a ton of weight from the excessive carb cravings instead

Reading this, I can so relate to RxQueen. Just started Lexapro a couple of weeks ago and sex drive and feeling is just gone. It's awful because otherwise my mood is lifting. I already take Wellbutrin which is supposed to help but clearly it isn't with Lexapro. I see my pdoc in a couple of weeks and I am bringing up this problem first thing. He's very understanding but I have no idea what will happen next med-wise. I need my sex life. I hope things get better for you, hon. I relate.

Thank you!! I had to stop taking it. Not being able to be intimate with my bf is depressing enough. I'm just wondering how long it will take to get back to normal. I was only on it for two weeks. I think if needed im going to switch around my other meds before I go to ADs. Maybe I need a new stabilizer. Who knows.
