I have heard that. I think it's a poor comparison for one. I also think people use it bc they don't know what it means. I hear people saying that they are "being bipolar" a lot and when I do j ask them "are you telling me you are bipolar or are you being indecisive?" it doesn't really bother me I just try to not let people throw that term around incorrectly. But I'm also a ***** about using words incorrectly in general.

I've heard people talk like this and it comes across as just plain ignorant to me. It's also insensitive, too. IMO

Meh, I have bigger problems to worry about.

Sometimes our weather is very temperamental, and then even I *gasp* call it bipolar. Especially if its having a mixed episode.

EG: "omg what is up with this weather today??? Its more bipolar than I am!"

Useful actually because it helps people realize I am not uptight about my dx.

I don't get too worked up about it. I just attribute it to the public's general ignorance about bipolar and other mental illnesses and let it go.

Yes this pisses me off. Or when they say someone is "being bipolar". Its ignorant as all hell. I always correct people when it comes to something medical because of my line of work too. I'm sure I'm probably annoying about it too but so is stupidity.

it's just a figure of speech. Not very good one... but really, I sometimes feel we are made to to be upset at the little stuff so we don't have any energy left to worry about the big ones...

Most people who say this don't care to educate themselves on mental illness, bipolar disorder in particular.

I'm not too worried/upset about it. I just think, "wow, I feel sorry for you. it must suck to have an IQ of a rock. How do you manage to wipe your butthole everyday, or does your mom still do that for you?"

Now c'mon.

Using a figure of speech... does not mean you are an idiot overall.

Many people use the word "fascist" incorrectly, but that does not mean they are scum of the earth.

Actions speak louder than words. Somebody may not have the proper grammar and may mix their metaphores, but be a good person. Somebody else can speak politically correct, but be a ****** ****** person.

Everything's bipolar. Seriously.

Some things are even actual illnesses: what a bad comparison!

Oh, and the government in Ukraine is fascist. (just kidding )

Our bodies are fascist.

That's actually a good comparison, because fascism was created by comparison.

**** like this pisses me off, that or people talking about killing themselves when you can tell this is someone who is not tormented with actually wanting to go through with it, and never would. ignorance plain and simple. drives me up the wall. almost lost it last time I heard something like that.

Sooo... I had a friend on Facebook describe the weather as bipolar and I flipped out.

Then I thought about it and when people say "bipolar" they're just meaning two polar opposites. So our world is bipolar because we have the north and south poles.

My mom on the other hand refers to crazy evil people as "bipolar" and that drives me livid.

When pertaining to wheather and scientific things bipolar is fine but using it to describe bad, gross, I liked behaviors, or negativity in anyway hurts.

I have similar feelings. I hate when people use any mental illness to describe their mood or anything else when they obviously do not have the condition. The two I hear the most are "I'm so OCD about.." or I "must have ADD or something" seriously? Come on, the people with these illness don't exactly like dealing with them and struggle with them in their own ways as well. I'm sorry, but it does get under my skin and I will call them out on it. I had to do that to my mom not too long ago, and my sister.

I've heard it before (and other things being described that way). In general I try not to be too PC-sensitive, but it does bug me a little.

Depends on my mood. It can either not bother me at all because I'm too concerned with other things, or it can drive me crazy because of how ignorant it is.

It bothers me, but not to the point that I say something to the person..just ruffles my feathers. I don't like bipolar being downgraded to something not serious and just not what it is. I try to spread education about mental illness, and that doesn't help.
Thanks for this!
